seanbperiod
Hello, I just received my woot hard drive in the mail today, and I'd like to make a copy of my hard drive onto it. Is there any way of doing this, so that it would copy all of my partitions, including xp, osx86, and linux? thanks =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30726-how-can-i-completely-copy-my-hard-drive-to-another/ Share on other sites

joe75
Paragon Partition Manager if you have XP, I would suggest Paragon Partition Manager Professional 7. It will take some time but it will copy all types of partitions Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30726-how-can-i-completely-copy-my-hard-drive-to-another/#findComment-212954 Share on other sites
Baliw
Usually new HD comes with a utility disk that will copy the entire old HD to your new HD . seanbperiod
isn't there some third party software dos based (maybe something from hiren's bootcd?) that will just read one drive, and dump the entire content onto another, including all partitions? joe75
I don't remember the long list in Hiren's, but I'm sure there is. The problem is mac disks get messed up easy and Paragon is the only one that has moved mac and not killed it, for me Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30726-how-can-i-completely-copy-my-hard-drive-to-another/#findComment-213489 Share on other sites
Baliw
Ok, I got a simple solution. Get yourself a Linux live cd. 1. Connect your new HD on computer ( Take note using this method your new HD should be bigger or equal to the old HD ) 2. Boot from Live cd 3. open up terminal 4 then type : dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb "if=" means "input file is", and is followed by the source of the data. "of=" means "output file is" and is followed by the destination of the data. 5. Then wait till it is done. flexuser
but will ghost/acronis recognize the mac partition? No they won't clone MAc partition. But ATI is the best utility to operate with *nix and Windows partitions. regards Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30726-how-can-i-completely-copy-my-hard-drive-to-another/#findComment-224134 Share on other sites
NeSuKuN
No they won't clone MAc partition. But ATI is the best utility to operate with *nix and Windows partitions. regards I've used norton Ghost to clone a mac os partition -.-U went OK Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30726-how-can-i-completely-copy-my-hard-drive-to-another/#findComment-224142 Share on other sites
BRP
You can dd a image right from mac or Linux boot prompt You'd want a livecd or boot disc, because there is no guarantee your disk will be immaculate during the whole process; in fact, unless you're in single user mode it almost certainly will be! flexuser
I've used norton Ghost to clone a mac os partition -.-U went OK Are u sure it was a Ghost? I'm asking , be cause the product homepage doesn't approves it. http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/index.jsp Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30726-how-can-i-completely-copy-my-hard-drive-to-another/#findComment-227844 Share on other sites
dponmac
Are u sure it was a Ghost?I'm asking , be cause the product homepage doesn't approves it. http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/index.jsp I'm sure Symantec doesn't make a version that runs in OS X, but if you use an older version that uses a boot disk that isn't OS dependant (I believe theres a version on Hirens BootCD) it will clone HD's regardless of what FS is on the hard drive. I've done it a few times with windows/linux/mac hard drives using ghost. But I would recommend donicci's method to clone HD's. quick and to the point.
