EricJD
I have recently acquired an old blueberry iMac, 350MHz G3, 64MB RAM, and it is currently running OS 9.0.4 Is it possible to install OS X on this computer?

toddicus
Is it possible to install OS X on this computer? Yes it is possible. The more ram the better, I'm not sure what the baseline requirement is but the more the better. I probably wouln't bother if you have much less than 256 MB and 512 would be better. This is very important, I almost cooked one of those once when I didn't do it. Install the latest firmware updates before you upgrade the OS. They are on the install DVDs I believe for Jaguar (10.2) and later. If you do not you can damage the video card in those iMacs. With enough ram and hard drive space you should be able to go all the way up to Tiger, (I think) the requirement is for the machine to have buil-in firewire which includes iMac DVs (if yours is DV I think 350mhz means it is). I believe I read in another post that Panther was the happiest on those machines, but Tiger should work as well.

Mine doesn't have a firewire port on the side, and I have no clue how to get a model number or whatever to see if my iMac is compatible. Overdriven
Actually, I have an iMac "333". I upgraded the ram up to 512 and it's currently running 10.3.9 NATIVELY. If you want to run 10.4 (It's slower, however, use XpostFacto.) -Alex
OriginalMACNUT
I had no problem running 10.4 on m Imac with 512 mem, but the system runs at 450 mhz
The Masked Muchacho
a 350mhz imac will be a slot loading kind, you wont need xpostfacto to install tiger on there as its a supported system. You will need to upgrade the ram, it uses standard PC100 dimms so they are easy to find. upgrading the hard drive is a little harder but its still pretty simple once you know how. It will make a fine OSX machine

The Masked Muchacho
am i the only one getting slightly annoyed by these postings by a nonny moose? i cant think how they can have helped anybody, why not post a link to the same information on lowendmac.com or everymac, at least it would take up less room. A Nonny Moose
Nobody is forcing you to read these apparently "long diatribes" done through Mactracker. In fact, there is always a link to the application at the bottom of every one of those posts. Maybe people should get it and get their "What OS can I run" questions answered. In the meantime, the information will continue with the necessary parts in bold type.

I only have 256mb ram and it still runs comfortably. It's no speed deamon but it does what I want and my Ihack picks up the slack.
