I've been using Mavericks Cache Cleaner by Northern Softworks since 10.5. It was called Leopard Cache Cleaner then, they change the name for each OS X version.

Most people swear by Onyx and there's another one that has been popular for years whose name escapes me at the moment.

Most of the ones that are peddled through annoying banner ads or spammed by zombie forum accounts (...) are known to cause more issues than they promise to solve.

I too read about Clean My Mac in this post that gives 21 tips on how to clean up a mac. anybody else checked it out. It talks about things like SMC reset and PRAM reset and all that. I am not sure if they are safe? A lot of people have commented that it is safe though. Some assurance from here will be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

IMO, Clean My Mac is just consumer-friendly crapware for OSX.

1. OSX does a good enough job of keeping itself 'clean'.

2. You're smart enough to do any additional cleaning or cache clearing yourself.

3. UI is very condescending and childish.

I've had some strange side effects using this program in the past, only use if you're desperately low on disk space.
