Quale ssd? p5q-e

I have the 250GB Samsung 840. Here you can get an idea of how it performed on my P5Q-E, compared to my new SATA 3 motherboard.

Before I got the 840, I had a Seagate ST31000524AS as my OS drive on the P5Q-E. To be honest, the SSD didn't feel that much faster in day to day use. Didn't make me go "wow" or anything.

But on my new motherboard it feels much faster.

(sorry about the language, i hope this is helpful to you)

Hi, sorry for language.

I have new Samsung 840 Pro on my old P5Q-E with SATA 3 and ASM1061 PCIe card for about 12 Euro.

You can check results of Samsung 840 Pro compared with old Vertex 2 on SATA 2

and Samsung 840 Pro on new SATA 3 PCIe card.

The P5Q-E is a great board. Mine is still in use, though it's not running OS X anymore. And yeah...you really need SATA 3 to get the full benefit of an SSD.

In the screenshot I posted of course read speeds are faster than a conventional drive on the ICH10R. But that's just a benchmark. I was trying to say that during actual use it did not feel that much faster to me.

If you use a laptop without SATA 3 an SSD is great no matter how fast it is because of the increased battery life. Not to mention that if you happen to drop your laptop it is 90% less likely that you will lose all your data.

    • Hello Allan!   I do have ACPIBatteryManager.kext and if i use IntelBacklight then I get stuck on boot with an error along of the lines of "busy timeout, (60s), : 'PEG0'". I have tried to patch the DSDT but failed. If i understand right, ACPIBatteryManager.kext needs DSDT edits to work? same goes for IntelBacklight?   EDIT: I tried to edit my stock DSDT using MacIASL again and i applied the battery patch for Asus Q550LF from @RehabMan Repo! I also applied the AsusFNkey DSDT patch. Now the battery meter pops up when i unplug the laptop. If i plug the charger back in, then the battery meter stays but does not update to show that the charger has been plugged in. Ive attached the DSDT below.. DSDT.aml.zip
