cRACKmONKEY421
I'd like to find a motherboard that will work out of the box with most things (and at least a patch for rest), but that is also known to work with Core 2 duo E6400... working onboard video would be nice too but not required. know of anything?? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26010-good-working-motherboard-for-core-2-duo/ Share on other sites
horst.schlemmer
Have a look in here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.4.7 The Asrock ConRoe Xfire eSata2 is recommended by a lot of people here.. miramar
Yes, the Asrock ConroeXfire is quite a good board. It's cheap and has lots of features. The only thing that will not work on this board is the onboard GBLan. In addition BIOS IDE setting must be set to Enhanced/IDE. Enhanced/AHCI works about half the time, the other half I get the dreaded 'Waiting for boot device' message. Sadly eSata hotplugging only works in AHCI mode. Other boards that will work well are the Intel 975XBX, Asus P5W-DH & MSI 975 Platinum(rev 2) but the above 975 based boards costs twice(or more) as much as the ConroeXfire. One other big advantage the ConroeXfire has is that it has 3 PCI slots. mir... mir... Wipmac
and if u wanna save the money for a special osx86 compatible gfx card get the AsRock Conroe945-DVI: i945G (built in GFX-card), DVI working, Dual Monitor. What is a cheap passively cooled gfx-card working 100% with osx86? does the x1600pro work 100%? is there anything cheaper ? cheerio Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26010-good-working-motherboard-for-core-2-duo/#findComment-176259 Share on other sites
cRACKmONKEY421
Thanks a lot for all the options... I think I'm going to get the Asrock Conroe 945G-DVI. That way I'll save on the video and I can wait to see where the scene goes as far as video drivers... ATI works well but ATM macvidia is progressing very well so I'd like to give it some more time ATM I've heard the only %100 working card is the series of video cards that is already built into the motherboard you have. The passively cooled $160 Saphire x1600pro silent should currently also work at or near %100 with hacked drivers... Cheaper ATI cards also have pretty good reports but none as good as I've seen with that particular card. Also, keep in mind that PC versions of ATI cards currently uses hacked apple ATI drivers. With future releases ATI will make their drivers harder to hack. PC versions of nVidia cards use drivers that were written by individuals within the OSX86 scene, rather than by nVidia then hacked. The drivers for nVidia cards do not support important hardware acceleration functions, but they are close and eventually will. What I'm saying is that when macvidia perfects their driver, it will likely be more solid and easier to update than any hacked driver from ATI. I think i'll stick with GMA950 for at least a few more months myself.
