platinum
i'm heading there now to see if it really is the intel pro wireless or not (cuz i know that the intel pro wireless isn't supported, but i think the broadcom is???) i i don't know, but i'm heading there now to get the full specs. i also like the 2 year warranty. if osx86 messes it up, just bring it back and say the hard drive crashed Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25351-possibly-the-working-and-cheap-osx86-laptop-to-get/#findComment-171415 Share on other sites

cardinal
For $50 less you can get MacBook that has 1.83GHz DUO instead of solo (that is the least expensive MacBook with 80GB hard drive upgrade). It is very hard to find a better priced dual core laptop then MacBooks. platinum
where can you get a macbook for $899???? (i'm talking canadian dollars, not US) the local mac store sells the cheapest macbook for $1249 (no taxes, it's on the reserve) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25351-possibly-the-working-and-cheap-osx86-laptop-to-get/#findComment-171783 Share on other sites

I was responding to locuras and $1199 price, and thinking it was in USD. But anyway, the difference is so small, and trying to get osx to run on a non-Apple laptop is just not worth the trouble, if you are in the market for a new laptop. Especially given that sleep doesn't work properly, which is must for mobile usage. brewno
for that much i'd rather get a macbook... I agree. If you are going to buy a laptop, then get a MB. If you dont have the money yet, the difference is so small... save just one more month. Dont buy a PC laptop =/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25351-possibly-the-working-and-cheap-osx86-laptop-to-get/#findComment-171815 Share on other sites
Franzy
I agree. If you are going to buy a laptop, then get a MB. If you dont have the money yet, the difference is so small... save just one more month. Dont buy a PC laptop =/ macs. PCs are the past, present, and future. Definitely buy a PC laptop. While mac notebooks are stuck in the past with limited upgradibility, compatibility, PCs are ever expanding. Security grows, compatibilty takes another leap ahead of apples, and upgradibility has now reached video cards on higher end notebooks. Apple computers are great to hack - not to buy. They are an overpriced piece of sh*t. If you want a cheap osx86 laptop, check this dell out http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...505S1&s=dhs if it doesn't come up right its the following: intel core duo @ 1.6 ghz XP MCE loaded 15.4 inch XGA 512 Dual channel RAM 60gb at 5400 24x cd burner/dvd combo intel GMA 950 dell WLAN 1390 (not sure if works but my driver mite fix it) all for 629. Add core 2 duo for 100 bucks. Not bad eh? I just picked up a Toshiba Celeron (Yonah) 1.4 with 15.4", DVD burner, 60GB SATA, 512 DDR2, Bluetooth, Atheros Wifi and Firewire for $599 Canadian bucks. poplars
yeah umm...don't listen to that kid who wants you to buy a PC, you're within a reasonable price-range, buy a MacBook. a PC will not run Mac OS X nearly as well as what it's /built/ for. and for the kid who said PC Is expanding.... what exactly do you think mac is doing? honestly, they've expanded soo much in the past year, such a statement is reduclously inacurate. good luck. Franzy
First of all. Mac kid ovr here has got his facts totally messed. Macs are for noobs and here's why. - you definitely don't get what you pay for in terms of hardware - games, software. Just as there are good media creating software only for mac, there goes the same for windows. - Boot camp has driver and bug issues as it will be in beta till next year (even then, you'll have to pull out the money for leopard) - Running windows on an intel GMA 950 is totally defeating the purpose. If you want good software, you buy the dell i showed you, upgrade the card for like 20 bucks and you'll be able to run top notch software. Then install Mac, and you'll have QE and CI on your spiffy ATI card. btw: nvidia QE and CI is coming in the next release of macvidia (So they claim) - Running windows on a mac = average apps (ilife, etc). And some average windows stuff. Running mac on PC will allow you to do so much more with that ati card. you can run final cut, ilife, you name it. Then on windows, you can run more intensive programming that just plain old either isn't compatible with mac or runs like {censored}. - gaming - battlefield 2!!! - best game out there. intel GMA 950 won't play it for sure. If you want the best bang for your buck in hardware, get a PC - Macs are overpriced. Same intel cpu, pcs have better video cards, more compatibility, same monitors, same company cd drives. Now, we're running the same OS as Apple. 10.4.1 was shakey, but 10.4.5 is as solid as a rock & each hackintosh release gets even more stabler. You could get a mac, sure, but then you'd be joining a group of a**holes like the one above me who take shallow shots at their opponents, rather than approaching the competition head on. PS: Sure macs are growing, but PCs are too. Apple is definitely falling behind. They've JUST switched to dual core and intel cpus. Dell is already on intel core 2 duo. You're telling me that a core duo will run better? You're out of your mind. I will wager any amount of money that an intel core 2 duo will run significantly faster. CORE 2 DUO WILL RUN FASTER THAN A CORE DUO IT IS A FACT. I DONT CARE IF YOU THINK LEGAL IS BETTER - THEY ARE BOTH GENERALLY THE SAME THING. There are minor differences you probably won't even notice. PPS: AND if compatibility is increasing, why is battlefield 2 not compatible? Or half life 2. Both are the top multiplayer games in the world and have been out for PC for a while. What's apple been doing? Releasing the older, less popular battlefield 1942 and age old games like starcraft...
