I couldn't help but noticed when reading some items on Mac World, they where talking about the new Mac Pro.... and one of the headers said

The case looks pretty similar to the Power Mac G5—what are the differences

Are they for real?

I know macs are known for "hey dude, just create man, like wow....cool, totally rad", but is the user base that dumb really that they don't understand?

I just read here (on this forum holy moly and lol) someone posted what about the heat problems due to the dual cuo core Xeon. There is no heat problem!

:-)

i know people who use computers very productively, yet don't know where their computer is.

no kidding, you think that's impossible, but it's not. i personally know two productive people of normal intelligence, who without guidance would take in their monitor to a repair shop if they wanted their computer to be upgraded with new ram.

then there are even more people i also personally eat dinner with, who have to be directed to "open the internet", cause they don't know what a browser is.

some folks, i'm honoured to be related to, literally hold human lives in their hands, they juggle medical records, and are expert in

using really arcane software used in hospitals, they telecommute, yet can not add a jpeg to an email.

NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TELL THEM!

re: the first post. it's just got to be a profound lack of interest or something.

Indeed.

I can remember at our bays (Pro-Tools, several of them) and telling them that Nuendo with a AMD chip ran circles around the G4/G5 (several years ago) and they didn't quite get it. They thing Pro-Tools, TDM, the way to go. While PT may be the standard, many PT users still prefer outboard, 3rd party AD/DA (i.e. Apogee) to the Pro Tools AD/DA. That said, quad core and next octo cores are going to give TDM or any proprietary systems a run for their money. You guys realize that the present workstations and especially the future OCTO would have cost $100,000+ to say render Toy Story right? Avid Bays used to have a price tag of $100,000.00 just to get going. While it's still the norm for TV and some FF (Feature Film), I see FCP making some strong headway and will only enlarge as the native systems become more powerful.

The real trick, and editors really want this, is the ability to edit at home, on the road (as they have to shoot on location, etc) and I think it will be very soon when we see the Mac Pro replace the MBP once the OCTO's come out. Speaking of which, anyone seen real benchmarks yet on the MP? Wondering how that pricing affects the present G5 and G5 quad. Doesn't seem like that bad a deal for $2499. Then again, if a system with a duo core 2 can be overclocked and exceed it for half the price (with DUAL display) than I am all for it.

On the other hand, $2499 is still a good price...note though in the Dell comparison (key note) I think the DELL had a more expensive GPU card. Could be wrong, but Mac Pro is 7300 Nvidia, and Dell was Quadro 550?

Cheers,

R

Well, there aren't as many Mac users as Windows users. So the few stupid Mac users are readily available, as opposed to the millions and millions of stupid Windows users.

True....

Also, ever notice that the tweakers, experts, so called REG EDIT peeps that can hack a windoze OS normally have the most crashes :D whereas the mom and pops normally get a virus or two on occasion.

:)

I have to agree with retroz. I have read some really "dumb"things on this board and I think it comes from the fact that diehard/long time mac users are not geeks and just want to use their computers. Thus they don't know as much as windows users that have to know this stuff to keep the piece of {censored} windows going. Mac users aren't stupid just they are spoiled. They don't know alot about computers because theirs works where as windows users pray theirs works without problems.

interesting point... but most of these "reg edit peeps" built their own box, meaning parts from all over which may or may not be 100% compatible. the "moms and pops" usually buy a box from a major vendor, such as dell or hp, and their boxes are designed to be 100% compatible with everything in the tower. also, the "reg edit" guys can usually solve their (self-induced?) crashes fairly quickly, whereas the "moms and pops" have a panic attack everytime windows tells them some arbitrary or useless message.

and in my experience, the more average users are more susceptable to viruses and spyware, just because they (usually) blindly click on whatever pop-up may occur through normal browser usage
