basemonkey
So, I'm new to the hackintosh thing, and this site and the wiki are a pain in the ass to get some basic information. I'd like to get a sticky going of a perfect setup, and when I say perfect setup, what will work with a retail dvd without hacking about? (additional kexts could be required), but all hardware must be fully functional. One thing that is lacking on this site is, finding pieces that go together that work(easily). If what I want doesn't exist, then lets get something going with the path of least work for people(like me) who are looking to build new machines. Gringo Vermelho
The site is not "lacking", there are many, many threads like that here already, you just aren't looking hard enough. The sweet spot seems to continue to be ICH10+P45+Core 2 Duo/Quad, though that's getting a little old. If you're looking at Core ix CPUs and X55/58 chipset boards, head on over to TonyMac's forum/blog. Gigabyte and ASUS make the most compatible motherboards. Some MSI boards are great too. If you're aiming for compatibility stick to Intel CPUs and Intel chipsets.
