bpeugh
I was wondering if anyone has come across a good cheap PCI sound card that is compatible. Just want to do Skype and most of the stuff on the wiki is a bit much. bpeugh
So that chipset should pretty much work with anything? I was hoping for a more specific card. L_X
Well, my card is called C-Media 8738 5.1, and it works nicely. I bought it for 6 bucks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22806-good-cheap-pci-sound-card/#findComment-151267 Share on other sites
bpeugh
Well, it seems that the C-Media 8738 5.1 is mostly a chipset that different people use in their cards. I was looking more for the manufacturer and model number. horst.schlemmer
I've got another question, how is the soundquality of that c-media soundcard? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22806-good-cheap-pci-sound-card/#findComment-151572 Share on other sites
zackhunter
if youre not a musician you wouldnt hear if the sound is good or not. Good cards cost good price. You know? But this cheap {censored} of {censored} soundcard is compatible. L_X
The card sound pretty decent - as good as any integrated AC97. I also have Audigy 2, and this card of course beats the {censored} out of c-media, but then again, as zackhunter already said, it really makes no difference at all if you just want to listen to mp3s and/or watch movies. horst.schlemmer
Yesterday i was at my local electronic store and had a cmedia card in my hands for 15 euros and the soundblaster live usb 24bit card for 60 bucks. I bought the soundblaster card, coz i wanted a spdif interface and decent sound, ok, i guess the cmedia card wouldnt be much worsers, but hasnt got digital output.. now sound works fine in mac os x Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22806-good-cheap-pci-sound-card/#findComment-152390 Share on other sites
jackt283
I'm not sure why but I really want a PCI interface. And there is nothing about, bar the C-Media that works? USB is good, but it is a pain in the ass, extra cabels, an extra box, etc, etc. However I want everything to work: 5.1 sound, mic, and sound in. Perhaps the USB Soundblaster is the way to go... Any other cards...? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22806-good-cheap-pci-sound-card/#findComment-152614 Share on other sites
martin1976
I wonder if this one will work... By the description looks like a real good card. I don't know if it uses the same chipset than the CMI8738 , but if it does it would be a better alternative to an USB sound card. I too hate having a lot of {censored} plugged into the machine. I'm using the onboard one and it sounds alright, but I have to plug into the mic connector... If this CMI cards are "compatible", I guess I would go for it. Has anyone tried it? BBond007
The card sound pretty decent - as good as any integrated AC97. I also have Audigy 2, and this card of course beats the {censored} out of c-media, but then again, as zackhunter already said, it really makes no difference at all if you just want to listen to mp3s and/or watch movies. I managed to get a free cmi8738 out of some junk that was going to be trashed. It works great but no digital out. My onboard sound has the issue with audio out on the mic and I still want to dual boot. Maybe I should get another cmi8738 with digital out, or I guess the other option is the Soundblaster 128. Both are cheap. But which is better? I was wondering if anyone has come across a good cheap PCI sound card that is compatible. Just want to do Skype and most of the stuff on the wiki is a bit much. for skype you might want to get a usb audio headset or imic... Jedisinclair
I too am trying to figure out what sound card to buy. My onboard sound works for sound out but not "in". Does the Soundblaster USB work for sound in ? Or has anyone found a pci card that works good?
