sbeehre
Anyone seen this before? im guessing its pretty new! http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/946pl_946gz/index.htm Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22085-new-intel-motherboard-support-for-core-2-and-pentium-d/ Share on other sites
RiceTea
Interesting! Given that the Southbridge of the Intel 946PL/GZ chipset is the older ICH7 this may be the first chipset to support OSX86 using a Conroe CPU. RiceTea
Good news, although it is a pretty expensive mobo. Onboard LAN, sound etc. working under OSX86? bpeugh
Most of the testers were using the Intel D975XBX (Bad Ax) and were able to overclock the 2.4 to about 4. RiceTea
I will keep an eye on the Asus P5W DH mobo, which also features the OSX86 supported ICH7R southbridge. According to the HCL the Marvell 88E8053 Gigabit LAN Controller and (after some Kext-editing) the Realtek ALC882M High Definition Audio 8-channel CODEC should also work. A bit overloaded and pricy it is, but this mobo or preferably a downscaled less costly version thereof will probably form the basis of my hackintosh project. stainboy
sbeehre. keep in mind that the new ICH8 does not have support for IDE, instead, it is done usind some chip that i think is not supported by OSX86. sbeehre
ok thanks stainboy.... im counting on the fact that Apple will be using this board in the new Mac Pro towers. Although that will suck if i cant use a dvd drive to install OSX in the meantime. sbeehre
Well i did some searching around on the net and found this ICH8 will also remove support for some aging technologies such as PATA in favor of SATA. While the current ICH7 integrates 4 SATA ports, ICH8 will come with 6 on the desktop platform. PATA support will be completely removed from the desktop chipset version and only be available in the mobile ICH8.
