anyone update to 10.6.3 with a ATI4870 card using EVOenabler.kext file and get no video?

on 10.6.2, with my ati 4870 i was able to just use graphicsenabler=yes without any aty or evo kext files.

after 10.6.3, my screen goes to power saving.

i can only VNC into the machine...

any suggestions?

I Was wondering the same thing. I am using the modded EvoEnabler now in 10.6.2 and it was working great with my XFX 4870 XXX 1Gb card and I have held off on the update till see it it working. So far I have seem most say back up

From 10.6.2 and replace after update and before reboot as a fix for the 4850 and someone said it worked in the 4870 but I am waiting to see someone confirm before I update

ATI4800Controller.kext

ATISupport.kext

ATIFramebuffer.kext

can anyone PM me the ATI4800Controller.kext from 10.6.2 ?

i upgraded to 10.6.3 and now i can only VNC into my box...mac software info shows the video card but can't pickup any display connectors.

i am just using graphicsenabler=yes, no evo or aty kext files.

i tried the dvi2vga dongle and that didn't work.

mines is showing everything the same as your printout, except Display Connector is blank. i'm using 1dvi and 1 vga connected, i tried taking out the vga, or /and dvi , tried using dvi2vga same no video. i can only VNC into the box.

hi,

what does your boot.plist file look like?

did you have to put any old 10.6.2 kext files to SLE folder?

also are you using DVI connector? or vga?

can anyone PM me the ATI4800Controller.kext from 10.6.2 ?

The kext I have uploaded here are just 10.6.2 Vanilla and should work for anyone needing them. I did not and any device id's or nothing . They are bone stock kext

Great I am glad it worked now I will go ahead myself and do my update. I had seen one person say that fixes it but you know how it it when just one says it does soon after you get 10 that say it does not.

Anyway we know now that this fix works for both 4850 and 4870 cards.

The kext I posted are just vanilla 10.6.2 kext so anyone that need to fix these 2 cards should be able to.

I can now confirm myself that the method I used for the 4850 also works for those of us using the modded EVOenabler for the 4870 and CE works just like before the 10.6.3 update

back the 3 kext I posted here from or use the 10.6.2

Install 10.6.3 combo update

do not reboot

install the back up kext

Restart

Beware if you use Sleepenabler you need the updated version for 10.6.3 or at least remove it before reboot or you may have KP

Also you may want to back up your AppleHDA kext too just in case you need it for 889a I did not for 888 I think you do I just replace it with my back up at the same time I did the other 3 when I did my GA-p35-DS3L with ALC888 + No EVOenabler needed here for the ATI 4850 512mb so Don't know if this might case problems I did the better safe then sorry method

Same problem here: Blackscreen --> power save mode

Running a 4850 Club 3D radeon.

In 10.6.2 I had it running smoothly with full hardware acceleration.

I found this: (on another site because netkas seems to like that april fools thing)

What you need to do:

1. Download the 10.6.3 combo updater if you don't already have it.

2. Install the 10.6.3 update to return you to a clean state and reboot.

3. Download the QE_CI patch I linked in my previous post.

http://mirror.netkas.org/QE%20CI%20E...s%2010.6.3.pkg

4. During the install process click on Customize, uncheck the ATI4800Controller option and install.

5. Once that is completed open /System/Library/Extensions/ATI4800Controller.kext/Contents/Info.plist in your editor of choice.(I used BBedit)

6. Find and replace the line "0x94401002 0x944a1002" with "0x94401002 0x944a1002 0x94601002 0x94411002 0x94431002 0x944E1002 0x944C1002 0x944A1002 0x94421002"

7. Save changes and reboot.

tried it out...it booted but no hardware acceleration.

then I tried to install the ATI4800Controller also and finally :D up my whole installation

But I was smart to make 2 OSX partitions. The main partition Im working with stays untouched. I always try out new updates on my USB Drive / Partition. Now I gonna try to reinstall 10.6.0 on the USB drive and will try to import those old kexts from the working 10.6.2 partition.

I did not need anything to run my 4850 just put the LeagcyATIcontroller.kext in the Extra folder and then it works just fine on Vanilla OSX kext in 10.6.2

I updated then put the 3 files I posted back in and rebooted. If you use the LegacyATI kext you don't have to add the device ID to your kext anymore. I tried that once before on my 4870 and FUBAR my install too. I was just trying my 4850 in my 4870 rig and ended up having the same as you.

Any news for 10.6.4, like working without 10.6.2 kexts?

Tnx

Yeah, the HD4870 is working again with the 10.6.5 update :).
