Hello everybody,

After reading various threads in this forum about graphic card support I decided to buy the ASUS EAX1600XT Silent.

I installed the patches from Borisbadinov, but for me it resulted in only getting the VGA port active (of course with resolution support and QE / CI enabled).

But unfortunately, no DVI whatsoever.

I tried various other hints from helpfull forum members, to whom I am very greatfull, but it resulted in the fact that the DVI port remained 'dead'.

After a thourough search on the internet I found out that there are two versions of the the ASUS EAX1600XT Silent. One 'normal' version and one with TV-out added. The latter having the DVI- and VGA ports change places. See pictures:

So beware if you buy an ASUS EAX1600XT Silent.

You should buy the one without TV-OUT support e.g. the DVI -port beneath the VGA port.

I know now as I own the wrong version :)

Hopefully this helps other forum members.

... :) say it aint so!

I just attempted boris's method and nothing happened. After looking here, I stumbled across your thread here and am sad to say ... I own the one on the right (that doesn't work).

I do have a GMA950 though on-board (as my backup in case something like this happened) *whew* ...still sucks though!!

:)

I also have the one on the right (with a black heatsink) and it's working fine by manually editing kext files with Borisbadenov method. I tried using the installer from NeoPheus but it didn't work at all for me.

I do use VGA only since my LCD does not support DVI. :)

Hard to decide which of these pics corresponds to the ASUS EAX1600XT Silent actually shown by Asus.

Compare:

Confusing...

whew!! well now I'm feeling better about this.

I tried the boris method last night and I still don't get selectable resolutions but this is weird...my DVI worked (thought after the method it would but it was before I tried too). I had 1024x768 (so I modded the Boot.plist to get 1280) and even the ripple effect in Dashboard but there were mouse artifacts and no selectable resolutions. I didn't try sleeping.

The only thing different about the boris method was that in one of the line...where it said like ATIX1000GA.plugin -- I think the JaS install disc I have said *.bundle instead but I did edit the same lines and nada.... ?

Kiko (or whomever ever else might be able to assist), I'd be great appreciative for any more insight into it.

Ohh! One last thing...my device ID (if I recall correctly) was 0x71c0 .... just thought I'd mention it as the menthod kept referring to 0x71C2 (I think it was?)

Hi Folks!

I just bought my Asus X1600XT Silent and noticed the same Problem!!

VGA is working on my DELL 2405 Screen in Full Resolution & Sleep Mode! But DVI - JUST BLACK SCREEN!!!

I was using Boris Method cause Installer not Working!

Wheres the catch on this Cards? On all Posts i read -everybody says YEAH, ASUS SILENT is the Full working Card..but now its just 99% without DVI!

ANY SUGGSTIONS?

THX

Hi there!

You can save Bios with Original ATIFLASH Tool (www.Techpowerup ) even on Windows / or Original ASUS Flasher from any X1xxx Card on Asus HP.

If you get it managed let us know which Version Number it is and give us a chance to download & try ypur Bios on our "NON -Working DVI" Cards...

Regards

Yes, I have one of the Asus Silent X1600XT boards with the BIOS that does not support DVI although the VGA works fine.

If you Google for ATi BIOS, you can go to techpowerup.com where they have a large collection of Video BIOS for download.

One is the Asus.X1600XT.256._051214 BIOS which may or may not be the one we all want. If it is, the flash is relatively easy.

Can someone with working DVI confirm their BIOS version?

My DVI works fine, but i cannot get the BIOS version as i do not have my PC at the moment.

tha_toadman, you should not have lost QE/Ci support, i tried to apply the hack once and it didnt work so i updated to 10.4.6 and applied the patch (manual editing) and it worked. I have noticed that there is a typo in Boris's method, it tells you to edit a file which doesnt exist :).

But now i have it all working properly again :D

well, i do have DVI working now but i'm going in to reapply the hack again here in a bit... *fingers crossed*

i've double and triple checked my typing for errors but ya know what...i'll use "grab" to prove this.

unless kiko, there are certain boris method's that i'm not suppose to do?

i did - just plug'n'play basically. i had to keep hitting the "source" button on my flat panel to get it between analog and digital but they both worked out of the box.

CI/QE anyone?? :)

we need to get 'Jemm' in here. i understand Jemm flashed the bios of this card and put the sapphire bios on it and it solved all previous issues with this card. hmmm...

So is your QE/Ci working becuase mine is and, no, i didnt use any special boorisbadenov method.

also, What "problems" do you mean?

No, mine is not. I have everything except QE/CI after using boris's method.

Currently, I have QE/CI enabled but that's IF i don't use boris's method and i manually edit the "...Boot.plist". Of course, I have artifacts, no rotation, no sleep (i think)...so I'm wondering if maybe part of the boris method would solve my problem (there really isn't much to it). I really don't know...that's where I need a little guidance from the man himself. i'll see what he says.

Has anybody gotten a new version (with tv out) Asus EAX1600XT SILENT/TVD/256M to work with the VGA port on JaS 10.4.6? If so, how'd you do it?

I first tried the installer from Neo but that didn't work. I then got mine working with the method from Boris. VGA is fully working, DVI gives me a blank screen just before the loginscreen is supposed to appear.

When you say "fully working", does that mean with QE/CI? Just want to be clear.

Sorry if i wasn't clear

it runs with QE/CI i can turn off beam sync, but Quartz 2D extreme is not supported. (at least that is what Quartz Debug tells me)

Thanks for the clarification. It seems that the difference between your system and mine is that you're running 10.4.7 and I'm running 10.4.6 because there's no 10.4.7 upgrade for my AMD system yet.

Maybe I'll try extracting the video drivers from 10.4.7 . (I don't quite know how to do that, though :-)

I've just gone through all the posts twice - and I'm more confused than I was before I started out. People aren't being clear enough or consistant with what they consider 'working'.

My own situation is that I have the Jas 10.4.6 release with the 10.4.7 (Jas) Upgrade on a Intel 945gnt system with onboard intel 950 graphics. Obviously things are working nicely, however I really would like a proper graphics card.

What I would like to know is if the Asus X1600XT Silent works with the following Requirements:

- on MacOSX 10.4.6/7 (Jas)

- Full QE/CI Support (Toad - What do you mean you don't have QE/CI yet you have QE/CI enabled???)

- Quartz 2D Support

- Full OpenGL support (etc)

- VGA working (and preferably DVI too)

- Resolution of atleast 1920x1200 or more

- Sleep functions

- ABSOLUTLY NO ARTIFACTS, MOUSE TRAILS or other flaws

(Whats the point on Spending $200 on a card that is going to look worse than onboard graphics??)

- Anything I missed?

Lastly, do both cards work 100% properly (as per above)? What I understand from the previous posts is that although the new model doesn't support DVI output the VGA however does work on both models. Which I can live with - as long as everything else works properly!

Can someone PLEASE post a custom HowTo guide on getting the Asus X1600xt Silent to work. Theres been comments about missing files and having to edits different sections and its allover the place... I really need one set of instructions (including the deviations/customizations) that details step by step how to get this card fulling working on the most recent release (That being the Jas 10.4.6 + 10.4.7 Update).

I would really really appreciate some advice on this - it seems to be scattered, inconsistent and even contradictory at times. Please Help! ;)

-Dave ;)

PS .Sorry if I sound a bit fullon... I'm not a n00b but even I am confused by the inconstancy and differing approaches. The Asus X1600XT Silent is the one that is recommended so it should definitely have a set of instructions that detail patches/changes/etc required for it to work especially for it.. even more so as people are going out to buy this card solely on those recommendations.
