i hear ya. i've been struggling with this too but this weekend (mainly sunday) was a HUGE breakthrough! I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!

 

Can someone PLEASE post a custom HowTo guide on getting the Asus X1600xt Silent to work.

 

i will post my findings in a HowTo later. i'm noticing that my free time seems to be getting lower and lower, but i'll do my best. :)

If anyone else can add any info on getting their X1600XT to work that would also be great.

 

In particular I'm still wondering about the capability of the card... in particular if their are any problems with the following features: CoreImage/QuartzExtreme2D/OpenGL and whether it has any problems such as artifacts or flaws or any problems with high resolutions such as 1920x1600 (As per my last post).

Well I have mine running in 1600x1200 on my Samsung (check the sig) and DVI works, sleep works, rotation works...everything checks out. CI/QE are 'supported' in "More Info". QE2D and OpenGL I'm not sure of at this time. I ran 'Xbench 1.2' last night and got like 75 at first and then downloaded 'QuartzSimple' (written by someone here I think) and turning off beam synce and enabling QE2D jumped me up to 101 and some change.

 

...I assume I'll be getting the new model

 

The black heatsink there mate...that's how you'll be able to tell.

I also got my "new" modell ASUS x1600 Silent working with boris method - but-

i get no Sleep and no DVI!

Resolution on my DELL 2405 is 1920x working flawlessly also with QE & CI enabled

 

What did you do?? I used the 10.4.6 & 10.4.7 Kexts but no change...

I tried, but the same. There are some thing strange:

 

1. My heatsink is black but CRT, TV and DVI connectors placement is the same as the left one from the pictures.

2. The screen is normal while installation. After installation is completed and reboot. The screen will be glitched and background is almost in balck.

3. Before OSX entry, it will show" VESA V3.0 16MB (ATI ATOMBIOS).

4. My BIOS is 113-AA82400-104. It also fails with 113-AA82400-100.

After removal of 10.4.6.Combo.update before OSX installation, this VGA card could display after installation.

The information of OSX shows it is 10.4.4 instead of 10.4.6. QE/CI supported, but with mouse artifacts, no rotation, resolution, sleep. Of course, BorisMethod/Installer are still in vain for me. I think the OSX revision is the key point. Because of my AMD 64 x2 3200, I could not upgrade it to 10.4.7. Maybe I have to get ATINDRV.kext from 10.4.5 or get a 10.4.5/10.4.6 update for AMD.

if you happen to stumble upon a ATINDRV.kext from 10.4.5, please let me know, i'd be happy to try and test it too.

 

One way to get the kext is to download the 10.4.5 Intel update from Apple and Pacifist from Charlessoft. Use Pacifist to view the .pkg file inside the .dmg from Apple, follow the path to System -> Library -> Extensions, click on the kext you want and hit Extract

Hi there!

 

My ASUS1600XT Silent is working like i tell before - i also tried it with 10.4.7 kext & NEO installer and Boris...its still the same:

QE /Q2D CI is working, Rotation & Resolution up to 1920x for my 24" Dell is working

BUT NO SLEEP &NO DVI and with this card i also get this IOKITWAITQUIET Message which screws up boot time up to 45 Second. With my 1600XT Sapphire before it was booting in 10 Seconds without message.

When i try to get him SLEEP he just shutdown - and restart !

MY Install DVD was the 10.4.6 Goatsx and i tried it before and after the 10.4.7 Upgrade but i get the same Results!

Thanks dude...I will give 10.4.5 a try.

Jas 10.4.7 AMD patch is on my pocket. I will figure out if it works or not.

Furthermore; I will install Jas 10.4.7 Intel/AMD DVD as well.

i have the asus silent pro with tv in /out

 

with jas 10.4.7 it works

 

i changed the kext with right id

 

now vga out is black

 

but vga out on dvi port works(analogue)

 

its works great, can play quake 4 etc

I tried borisbadenov and the installer, but when it comes to login screen, the display is black with mouse visible or the display is glitched...When it is glitched i can log in and check that all is enabled (CI, QE...), but why is it glitched?

You do not use te installer for this card, just have to edit one file, its much easier & simpler anyway (editing the file). p.S: make sure you have 10.4.5 kexts as they seem to work the best

Gally30, that's quite stange for yours to fail with the same BIOS that mine is currently running. Mine is the 113-AA82400-100 and it works.

 

I will do more experiments this weekends. Although I will buy my wife a Mac Pro eventually, I am fond of building my own one. lol.

Kiko: It was the first thing I did - edited the ATINDRV.kext - but it didn't help. Can I download the 10.4.5 kexts somewhere? I'm using the goatsecx DVD, but don't remember what version it was. Now I have JaS 10.4.7 update + NEOs borisbadenovs installer.

 

Do you think it's only the wrong version of the kexts, or could it be the cards firmware or something? I just bought the card for 100€ (it's over 150€ new here in Finland)
