So, I gave a XP SP2 system to my grandfather a while back. He is using Outlook Express. He says that none of his links in the email is working. When he clicks them, they turn purple, as they should, but nothing will open. Does anyone know what's going on with this? Thanks.

Sorry I'm asking about MS software, but this community is so good and informative, so I figured it is worth asking.

Outlook Express has a lot of issues and isn't so secure. That link thing sounds like a security 'feature' they added recently to make you cut and paste the link or something.

I'd recommend installing Thunderbird and then one of the themes like this one:

https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2349/

You can import the mailbox in usually... He shouldn't really notice the difference with that theme, and he'll be less apt to get owned. Easy to try out on him...install it, put that theme in, and change the name something else and just see what he thinks. I know what you mean when he is set in his ways. My mum insists on IE, even though she gets owned by spyware constantly due to using it in a stupid fashion.

Make sure that internet explorer is still set as the default web browser. You can check this in the program access and defaults control panel.

Thanks, I'll lat him know to check that.

Try out Thunderbird. It's better than Outlook and you can import all of your old mailboxes from outlook.

I agree with you 100%, and TB is actually what I personally use. He is set in his ways, there's nothing that cn be done about it.

Edit: Cyrana, thanks for that suggestion. I'll send a link over to him, maybe he'll try.

You're all great,

Thank you again.
