Can't get ALC889 (not "a") to work with Snow Leopard

I tried the kext after rebuilding the cache

it didn't work (is it LegacyHDA+HDAEnabler combined?)

still no output devices in system preferences and the only thing in system profiler is:

 

Intel High Definition Audio:

 Device ID:	0x1458A102
 Audio ID:	0

alc889.zip Try and install first this HDAenabler if you see devices in the audio profile then install the LegacyHDA either in E/E or S/L/E, also I attached the kext utility, drag and drop kext files on top. Boot with -v and keep an eye on sound assertions.

I tried using the HDAEnabler without the LegacyHDA (and without any configuration in my DSDT)

I get the following assertion error upon boot

yes I was going to reply that it didn't matter but you beat me, somehow is not detecting your codecs from bios, Did you try VoodooHDA? or like this guy with layout 885 I'm attaching the file HDAEnabler.kext.zip

Do you have the original AppleHDA.kext, don't you? repair permissions with disk utility and boot -v -f

I'm attaching IOregistryExplorer so you can check HDEF@1B IORegistryExplorer.app.zip

and yes' I have original AppleHDA and permissions are fine

with IOREGISTRYEXPLORER I can see the device (with all the settings injected from my dsdt)

Could you attach DSDT and your Leopard AppleHDA? you said this one worked in the past, correct?

In the past I had EP45-UD3R which use ALC889a

it worked both on leopard and snow leopard using dsdt+legacy kext

on the new board I haven't tried Leopard, only Snow Leopard.

Did you confirm you have sound with this new board e.g. Win7/Vista? check BIOS disable/enable int audio. I don't like that Voodoo is KP, it's actually a good tracing program. I don't know how Apple or DSDT deal with interrupts but it seems there is a conflict going on.

Sorry for the all the questions, I know you are not a noob but we have to eliminate the obvious.

1-Ioregistryexplorer file

2-linux codec dump from liveCD

3-Vista/Win7 pinconfigs override verbs from Vista/Win7 regedit

Did you try VoodooHda? http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=355 but important remove AppleHDA.kext before installing or it will panic.

if it doesn't work attach here a linux codec dump or a getdump from the voodoo page.

VoodooHda works (kind of :) )

The Volume is very very (very) low

(there are only two output deices in preferences - line out and front mic and both of them need maximum volume on my speakers just to be able to hear something)

Download voodoo preferences panel and install it, also d/l getdump utility and run it from terminal, from that information you can edit your info.plist and get your devices in order.

Thank you, but I'm not interested in a solution which replace SL AppleHDA with one from Leopard.

 

I get my ALC889 to work on SL... No HDA enabler needed... tho im on Intel P55 system board, it should b d same as all 889 out there... i guess... What i have:-

 

10.6.1 AppleHDA.kext (Around 6.6mb) get it from tonymacx86 zip files... Put in system/library/extension...

LegacyHDA.kext as the post no 3 above (mutis)... Put in extra/extension...

DSDT edit for HDEF as per latest tonymacx86 dsdt fixes and replace all AZAL reference... to be safe, do find and replace after doing the dsdt alc889 replacement on ur existing AZAL lines...

Repair all permissions and reboot... my output is as default which is the green middle jack... hope this help....

 

However, since u r using gigabyte board, u may want to check tony's dsdt edited database for a complete tweaked dsdt.... that makes u a lil easy....

I have tried hell lots of way on this bloody ALC889 and it took me more than a month figuring it to work. Now that its working, its all that 3 things above that needed... make sure you use the exact kext... There's a lot of same named kext floating around this web but they are all not identical...

The kext was only for testing to see if it works, so that i can get closer to a solution

This is the only kext that got my audio working without error's.

Also still stuck with a x32 system with this one

The dsdt compiled just fine, used AppleHDA from 10.6.1 and legacy kext with correct layoutid to match the config in the dsdt. still can't get it to work.
