cheerio
How long does your computer take to boot up, and shutdown ( when i turn my computer on, it says "dell", but don't start counting there. Count when OSX starts loading ) Tiger-x86 Start Up : 18 Sec. Shut Down: 6 Sec. Windows Start up: 26 Sec. Shut Down: 17 Sec. A Nonny Moose
I don't time such things, but I have a relative time frame here (startup) for each version of the Mac OS I've been on: OS 9--Downright fast compared with 10.1 and 10.2. I kept booting into it and marvelled at how responsive it was. 10.1--God, this thing took forever to start up because it kept trying to establish a network connection. I could go and pee and it would still be on "establishing network connection." 10.2--Somewhat faster, because the network thing was killed off. 10.3--DAMN, that one was a fast startup. Fastest one of all the OS's 10.4--better than 10.2. Not as fast as 10.3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20021-how-fast-does-your-computer-boot/#findComment-131706 Share on other sites
INFNITE
you mean start when the gray apple logo shows up? Also, how much stuff you have installed affects the start-up and shut down time. Colonel
My iBook G3 OS 9 - Fastest startup i've seen in a while. 10.2 - Okay not as fast as OS 9, but not much slower 10.3 - I'd have to agree with A Nonny Moose. This had to be the fastest OS X boot. 10.4 - Uhg. It's as slow as a dog on here. My Hackintosh Windows - With automatic login, probably about a minute. OS X - With automatic login, about 15 seconds. jgrimes80
ive only had 10.4, and i have to say its anywhere between 10 and 15 seconds. the MBP is FAST. The last PPC Powerbook version running with the 1.6GHz and 10.3 had the fastest boot times I've experienced... domino
Times from boot loader to desktop: * 10.4.6 took about 8 seconds before Callisto. Callisto installed takes about 12 seconds. Shutdown about 4 seconds * WinXp takes about 25 seconds. Shutdown about 6 seconds. * Ubuntu takes about 15 seconds, but most of the services have been hack. Shutdown about 3 seconds. belgrano
For me, 10.4.6 starts in about 25 seconds and shuts down in 10-12. XP starts in 1 min (but it's really usable after another 30 seconds) and shuts down in 50 seconds.
