Ok well this is my first post. I have been ghosting these forums for a couple weeks. I was so happy to learn I dont need to buy a mac to run osx. I've never built a Computer before im fairly confident i can do this.

Processor- 805 Pentium D

Mobo-ASUS P5ND2-SLI Nvidia N FORCE 4 Intel Edition

Power Supply- Dyna Power 500 watts

Aeneon- 1 gb 240 pin pc2 5300

I have like four 40 GB hard drives laying arounnd the processor comes with a free dvd burner. Totals at a low $ 301 usd $ Also i want 2 overclock 2 around 3.6 ghz. any Cooling ideas. I dont want a water cooler. thx. remember this is my first post go easy on me. WILL THIS WORK ?.

Is there some reason why you have choosen not to go with the Intel 945 chipset? For OSx86 it might give you much better results.

Is anyone using the NForce 4 Intel Edition here? Are there any reports?

Regarding cooling, for about $45, you could go with the ThermalTake Blue Orb II: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835106069

or the similar Zalman CNPS7700-CU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835118115

For $65 you can get the Zalman CNPS9500 which may be your best choice for overclocking the 805 to 3.6 GHz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835118003

But make sure your case is big enough to hold these rather large coolers.

Don't forget to get some Artic Silver 5 (if it does not come with your cooler): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835100007

Run a search on your board, chipset here and the wiki, especially read all pertaining to nforce4 boards. Don't ask questions that have been answered more than 5x in the forum or wiki because you will not get a response. If you intend to multi-boot, expect to install OSX and XP at least 3x each to get it exactly the way you want it.

You do not want to invest your time with installing and configuring any application in OS X and Windows until you know exactly how you want everything set up such as partition, which OS to install first, and pro/cons with your system configuration. If you have things set up the way you want, always have a back door when problems come up. The extra drives will come in handy. Always have backups of edited kexts and edited files.

I would not worry about clocking anything at this point. You still need a 100% working OS ;).

good luck,

domino

On a related note, the OSx86 board of choice for overclocking seems to be the Asus P5LD2-V, it has the 945 chipset and GMA 950:

But the P5LD2-V is not availble in North America and the P5LD2-VM is not nearly as good for overclocking. In any case, it has been reported that the P5LD2-VM can overclock the 805 to 3.4 GHz so it still might be your choice:

i think will be better with intel 975 + ddr2-800= u can ovwerclock to 4.1Ghz just installing the fan or fans one for processor the other for the box ....

Um, not hardly. 4.1 will cost you at least the Zalman 9500 (in my case) and VERY good airflow just to keep the idle temp under 50. On air, 3.6-3.8 is most realistic with the Zalman (Im @ 3.8, small Vcore bump)

To the OP, I have a P5LD2 that runs very well with the same processor, and 2 GB RAM. If youre planning on going to 3.6Ghz, plan on spending the ~$60 for the Zalman CPNS9500, its worth it.

i hope this will help with overcloking atleast u running 3.6Ghz.

Yes, Ive read it. Its not possible to clock it that fast on air. Trust me, I tried, but if you feel like frying a processor and possibly MB, by all means...

One more thing...

You do not mention your plan for a graphics card, this is a major issue.

It might be wise to go with an ATI x1600 if you do not require dual displays.

Hi,

and which graphics card work with dual display.

i have 2 19" tft on a ati 700 but only clone modus.

thanks
