chevy2410 Posted June 15, 2006 Share Posted June 15, 2006 Hello all, I've ben trying to get OSX installed on my PC, but have been unable to do so. I never ever get past the grey screen with the apple logo. My computer specs are: Asrock 939dual sata2 mobo AMD Athlon 64 3000+ CPU 1gb DRR 400 memory 40gb ide HD for OSX only Liteon SOHOW 812s dvd burner Geforce3 Ti200 video card AGP Now I'm sure the first 4 in my list are fine, although I'm a little worried about the mobo. I am will to change to an Intel board if it make things go smoother. I've had the cpu and mobo for about 8mths and would really like to use what I have. If someone has a recommendation for an easier mobo for install I may go that route as well. Anyawy I'm thinking that either the dvd drive or the video card are the problem. When I look on the compatibility list my dvd drive and video card aren't listed. Now trying to find one of the listed drives locally isn't good. So i was wondering if anyone knows if the Pioneer DVR-111 will work? The Pioneer DVR-110 is listed and I thought maybe the DVR-111 may work as well. I did a search on eBay to find some the drives and most are pricey. Does anyone have a recommendation on anew drive that will work with no patches? As for the video card, should I upgrade to PCI-E? Will that make it easier for the install? Should I just put together a new intel system? Any help would be awesome. Have not tried SATA" on that board. rkwok Posted June 16, 2006 Share Posted June 16, 2006 I had tried the 939DualSata2, it did install OSX, but it was painfully slow and took almost an hour or so to finish the installation. Just make sure you are using one cable to connect both the HDD and DVDRW (master and slave), then you should be fine, we had tried K8Upgrade800, K8NF4G, 939NF4G, 775I65G, P4I65G, P4I915GL and 775D915GL, all will install and ran OSX, the most sucessful are of couse the 915 series, almost everything works after initial setup except CI and QE, need to patch with 10.4.5 kext. Yes I have done that. I should have stated it before. I get "still waiting for root device". I'm trying to install it on an ide hd. I did have HD on Master ide and dvdrw on secondary slave. Do you think video card will be ok or is it a wait and see thing? Is there another amd mobo that someone can recommend that would be an easier install and have most things work such as lan? chevy2410 Posted June 17, 2006 Author Share Posted June 17, 2006 Ok, here's what I have done. I moved my dvdrw drive to primary master and then put my HD on the slave of that same chain. I formatted the HD to fat32. I am using the Jas 10.4.6 install dvd. I put dvd in drive and booted. It took about 10 or so minutes, but then started the install. I was able to partition drive and installation began. Now it took about an hour maybe longer because I went out. When I came home I noticed it was on the grey apple screen and it had a red circle with a line through it and was doing nothing. My dvd drive wasn't doing anything. So I figure it had rebooted, but the OSX disc was still in the drive. I removed disc and rebooted. Apon reboot I get an error "b0 error" I still had my dvdrw as the pri-master and HD as slave on same chain. So moved HD to pri-master and dvdrw to sec-master and rebooted again. Same thing. Anyone have any ideas what has happend? I also wanted to know, should I be using a USB keyboard or PS2? You need to use fdisk in Terminal or one of the Linux or Windows partition apps to set the partition active. When I click properties to get some info I see "BAD MBR". Any ideas? chevy2410 Posted June 17, 2006 Author Share Posted June 17, 2006 Ok last night I decided to reinstall OSX 10.4.6 again. I was thinking that maybe a had a bad install. Everything seem to go smooth, although it took like more than an 1hr. to install. At the end OSX said that everything installed and asked for a reboot. I did. Upon reboot I quickly tapped F8 and waqs able to boot in verboose mode. Here is where I have problems. It nows says "still waiting for root device" over and over. I thought this was more of an issue with dvdrw drive maybe not being compatible. I thought that I set the partition active. I'm really thinking now this has more to with mobo and video card. I don't know. Anybody have any ideas? I'm at the point of buying new mobo and cpu. rkwok Posted June 19, 2006 Share Posted June 19, 2006 ok, here is the config: 939DSATA2 Rev 1.04 A64 939 2800+ 2 GIG buffalo DDR400 Pioneer A108 DVDRW ON IDE 1 SLAVE Samsung 80G HDD ON IDE 1 MASTER OSX 10.4.6 JAS During the first 2 installation we selected SSE3 and it cause kernel panic. 3rd attemp selected SSE2 and everything went smoothly, still slow but it works. Just make sure you disalbe all SATA I,SATA II controller and Floppy controller in the bios. diable everything that's not needed. NIC and Sound not working, put in RT8139 and rebooting as i am typing this. Like when dvd boots up and you choose F8, is that where you would type something like that? I've read a lot of posts where people have stated that they choose this option or that option. chevy2410 Posted June 21, 2006 Author Share Posted June 21, 2006 Well I'm able to say that I have successfully installed OSX 10.4.5 on my PC! WOOHOO!! The speed is not bad, but I think it could be a bit faster. Maybe it's the ULI chipset. I will say it seems faster than my G4 Ibook. Like the wiki says though... no ethernet and no sound. Now I'm thinking of upgarding the PC and was wondering if anyone can recommend a motherboard? I'm going to go Intel and I'm going to buy a Pentium D 930 CPU. I would like the mobo to have onboard video. I don't have a lot $$ to spend so gotta save $$ somewhere. rkwok Posted June 21, 2006 Share Posted June 21, 2006 get any board that's using 945g and then you will be able to take advantage of the osx features, i am using the asus p5ld2-vm dh with the acer 1916w@1440x900 display, good for watching japan drama, since they are all 16:9. almost everything work out of the box except the sound card, need the patch for it, then everything works, sort of, never test the sound in though.
