make sure you put the NullCPU kext in the extra/extensions folder.

Had the same problem after updating to 10.6.2 on Friday. Boot off your install DVD, delete dsmos.kext from /System/Library/Extensions, add fakesmc.kext (just do a quick Google search for it) to the same folder and then do:

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/fakeSMC.kext

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/fakeSMC.kext

touch /System/Library/Extensions

Reboot after that. That worked for me, let us know how it goes.

This didnt work for me. what i did is installed SN on another partition and went into my primary partition (the one with the broken SN) and deleted dsmos.kext and added fakesmc.kext and then i booted from the install disc to get to the disk utility and i did a repair disc on the primary partition and rebooted and still got the kernel panic. what gives?

HI GUYS

I am a total noob at all this. I am having the exact same problem as the original post. I finally got the computer to boot up from a usb stick with snow leopard install on it. NOw. I have no idea how to use the terminal, i know, i know how do i even get to this point if I dont know how to use terminal. Long story, wont bore you with it.

the point is im trying. Help a rother out please.

The hard drive with the os installed that gets the kp is called optimus prime.

now what would I type in the terminal to delete the dsmos.kext that keeps crashing the system.

i have an open shell on the screen. on the top right corner it says

-bash-3.2#

what do I do?

simply type rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext and then rm -rf /Extra/Extensions/dsmos.kext and then rm -rf /Extra/Extensions/Extensions.mkext be very careful with the rm -rf command if it is typed rm -rf / extra (with them space ) it proberly will hose your system

However as you have not given us any details of you system we cant help you to much but you could just try to install the correct boot loader for your machine for example I have a gigabyte X48-DS5 and used a X58 boot installer and selected only the options I needed like fakesmc nullcpupowermanagement platformuuid and a couple of others but those three normally are needed by most machines

Good luck
