  1. Force empty trash: I downloaded an app to convert flv to mp4s and it messed up my hackintosh (somehow it turned all the invisible things on, "broke" finder, couldn't open up certain apps, couldn't empty trash...) and did a wipe and reinstall it got so bad. However, I still cannot empty the trash. I get "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)." every time. How can I force empty the trash? Holding option didnt work and neither did secure empty. There is around 200gb of stuff in there that I really want to delete.

  3. Kakewalk needs to be on a drive <500gb for booting. If you need more memory just add additional drives. I recommend my SSD drive to boot off of, but it is expensive. I would otherwise go with a 250gb barracuda for your boot. Do yourself a massive favor and use a UD5 mobo, it is definitely the easiest to work with. Newegg is out but you can get it on buy.com. I don't know what your budget is, but I can tell you I heavily researched my specs and installation was a breeze and runs stable. The only irritating things are the things associated with hackintoshes in general.
  4. Is istat Pro a reliable source for temperature readings? Are there better programs? I have a noctua NH-D14 and am getting 40C, which is obviously way too high given that my i7 920 is running at stock settings. I have tried installing and uninstalling the heatsink (carefully cleaning off the thermal compound and putting the directed amount of fresh compound back on) and am still get readings between 38C-46C when 96% idle. To add to that, on my EX58-UD5 board the yellow and green light indicators for overheating are on. I dont have the manual in front of me, but I don't think it is a major issue till the red light is on (meaning >60C), but it suggests that it may be even hotter than the reading temps. I am still trying to get to a stable overclock. I am trying to avoid adding additional kekts, though I may resort to that if necessary. Sleep is a must and is working great. I currently have a 100% vanilla hackintosh that is back to working mostly pain free after by monitor issue. I'm even booting off the kakewalk disk because when I installed KakewalkBoot it made my OOB wireless card stop working.
  5. This is the third time I am posting it and hopefully by wording it differently someone might be able to help me I have a i7 hackintosh with a 9800GT GPU, which has two DVI slots in the back. Just to see if different resolutions worked, I changed the resolution for the screen I was using. It sent me to the "blue screen of no return," which is a blank blue screen that I do not know how to change out of. Can someone help me go back to the working resolution on this DVI port. The other DVI port works, but blocks my internet antenna, so I need to have the other one fixed? Is the only way to fix this by doing a reinstall through Kakewalk?
  6. I have already posted this twice and really need some help. Im using 9800GT GPU. I had a smooth running hackintosh, but then stupidly decided to play with the resolutions. I think I put it on 1280*1024 and now all I have is the blue screen of no return. I switched DVI ports and it is back to "normal" but I need to figure out how to change the other screen because how it is plugged in now interferes with my PCI wireless internet antenna. Am I going to have to do a reinstall of OSX thru Kakewalk given that I need both DVI ports working?

  8. I am trying to install yahoo's widescape weather directly onto my desktop but it says when I double click to try to open the widescapeweather.widget file that there is no default application to run it and I do not know what to choose.
  9. CPU temperature in iStat

My free trail to istat expired and now I cannot get rid of the boxes at the top. Could someone help me with this issue?

  12. So after completing my kakewalk project, I realized that I don't have the need for such a fast desktop as I found that I end up using my laptop anyway. It works perfectly (sound, internet) thanks to mrjanek and GA-EX58-UD5, is incredibly fast (4.0ghz, NH-D14 cooler, 80gb SSD), is great for media (9800GT, 1.25TB HD), and is very easy to tweak and customize. PM me if you are interested in buying it or learning more about the system. I am not looking to make a profit.
  13. i meant a 4-5mm diameter dot in the center that was then spread out when i put the heatsink on (per the directions). It was very thin when I finally took it off.
  14. Thank you Mr.Janek for my full working Hackintosh! My one issue is with the internet. I bought an OOB compatible PCI Dynex wireless card to use AirPort natively. When I first installed kakewalk, it worked fine and I was able to surf. When I installed Kakewalkboot and restarted the computer, it no longer works. Does anyone know why? I was told the AppleHDA.kext might be causing the malfunction. Is this kext safe to delete? My sound works fine at the present. Also, I am trying to add a 1tb and 250gb hard drives (not to boot off of) and although they are plugged in, they are not being recognized and an error message pops up. It gives me the option to initialize them and I am not sure whether I need to partition them or do something else so they can act as storage. Finally, I will eventually be overclocking my hackintosh, but I am worried given my experience with the NH-D14 the first time around. Should I give that heatsink another go? I blame it for my problems last time as the motherboard constantly said the CPU was overheated. I may have used too much thermal compound although I followed the directions of 4-5mm. If I take the intel stock cooler off and try to reinstall the D14, can i reinstall the intel stock cooler if the D14 fails again? I dont know if there will be enough thermal pad left on the stock cooler.
  15. I have a DVD player and it finally worked on the 8th try. All up and running and at 10.6.3. I checked the software update and there are two seemingly important updates - Safari v4.0.5 and the Apple Security update. I think I have a 100% Vanilla install (I used no kexts at all), so it should be safe for me to do a normal update right? This also has confused me. I have a Dynex wireless PCI card that is OOB compatible. When I first did the install and got into OSX, I opened safari and was able to surf. Then I installed Kakewalk bootloader and I can't even turn AirPort on as it says "No AirPort card installed".
