Booshi
Hi there, I’m...new... anyway, I and a couple of my buds are in dire need of assistance. None of us have much programming experience with computers (if any). Long story short, we need some sort of NOOB guide to osx86 for the programmingly challenged people, with as many pictures as possible and with no technical terms so that even a person who has never touched a PC before could install osx86. If technical terms are absolutely required, then give some picks of process of accomplishing that technical feat which would be much appreciated What we are actually trying to do is to dual boot a PC with OS X86 and win XP for programming experience and also for other knowledgeable insights into programming. We (I & buds) are all very grateful for the information would be providing us with, and surely many other Noobs will be pleased by this too “out there.” The computer we are trying to install osx 86 on is an: -HP 920 media PC -Pentium D processor at 2.8 gigahertz -2gigs of memory -250gig HD -Nvidia 6200 w/ turbo cash Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/18701-need-an-easy-no-term-install-guide-to-osx86/ Share on other sites

Before we can start, you must do some checks on your pc. First you must check that your cpu has sse2 (some thing that new processors have <and SOME old ones> --> to do that go to http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and download the program called cpu-z which will check wether your cpu is compatible or not. If it has only SSE then sorry you are out of luck and cannot use os x unless you buy a new proccessor. If it has SSE2, then you are lucky because your pc will support os x but with a patch <don't worry about the patch now> If you have SSE3, then congrats....your os x will run VERY well without any patch. Now for the other requirement--> you need a dvd burner and a blank DVD. <<If you don't have that then you will have to install using a different way <HARDER> Of course the most imporant requirement is the install DVD itself which you can get from www.demonoid.com (but first you have to register for free -- or log in as in demonoid torrents are search for Jas 10.4.6 dvd (apx. 4.38GB) and download it. PLS. reply and tell me what you cpu supports and wether you have a dvd burner. After that I will tell you haw to install it very easily. Good luck for you and your buds Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/18701-need-an-easy-no-term-install-guide-to-osx86/#findComment-122534 Share on other sites

Mebster
If you PC meets the requirements (SSE2 or ideally SSE3) then continue to follow the instructions. If it only has SSE2 then you will need to activate the SSE2 patch in Customise during the installation to emulate an SSE3 processor. If it doesn't have SSE2 then bad luck . There's no hope. You can use cpuz to find out what your PC has. ************************************************ Firstly search for "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD" (or the most recent DVD - there are newer ones with 10.4.6 out now) in Pirate Bay and download it. The exact name is "Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD". It’s a 4.35GB iso file so it's going to take a while. I got the info to download that here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10614 But basically you don't need to view the page as long as you can find the download. Then I followed the following guide. I didn’t need to use Partition Magic as I already had unpartitioned space on my 250Gb drive. Most people don’t. So you need to know how to use Partition Magic. I never needed to so don’t still. 1. Have Partition Magic (version 8 preferred). If you do not have this then continue to step (4) and make sure to use the alternative method in step (8). 2.1st run partition magic and create (or resize) as much free space as you can after your windows partition and before any extended partition (thus creating 2 primary partitions). It is Crucial that the allocated non-formatted space be AFTER the windows partition. Make sure the space is marked as Unallocated space. You need at least 6GB (to stay safe) for OSX and the remainder can be used for XP and/or extra storage partitions. 3. Press apply and if required reboot to make the changes. 4. When done boot normally and click start then run type in "diskpart" (no quotes) press enter 5. Type "list disk" press enter 6. Type "select disk 0" press enter (or whichever disk you want. If you only have one disk it is disk 0). 7. Type "list part" press enter to show all the partitions on your hard drive. You will notice you do not see the empty space you made in Partition magic 8. Type "create partition primary id=af" then press enter. (Alternative: If you did not use Partition Magic then type instead "create partition primary size=6660 id=af" to create a 6GB space for OSX. Replace 6660 with a greater figure if needed) 9. Type "list part" press enter. Now you will see the new partition OS X will be installed on. 10. Type "exit" press enter 11. Burn the “Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD" with Nero. 12. Boot off the DVD.. 13. Once you get to the part where OSX asks where you want to install you must launch the Disk Utility and under the Erase section, erase the partition you created earlier (can be identified by size). Make sure “Mac OS Journalled” is selected 14. Once done OSX installs fine (15). In the setup under customize there is an AMD enabler. Make sure to have this checked if you have an AMD system or remover it if you don't need it. And also select SSE2 patch if you only have SSE2 on your system and not an SSE3. Once installed enjoy. The Darwin Boot Loader defaults to OSX but if a key is pressed within 10 seconds it lets you boot to what ever drive Windows is on. How i feel as time goes on when no one helps even though we have got loads of here :angry2: Hope the info provided helps you though. All the best. Colonel
MarcConnor, you can use the VMWare Installation method since you don't have a DVD drive. http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...11314&hl=VMWare Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/18701-need-an-easy-no-term-install-guide-to-osx86/#findComment-122823 Share on other sites
Mebster
iamcamiam you need 6GB as a min. But actually you can have way below that if you remove rubbish like print drivers (takes GBs of space - gosh). You can probably have as little as 3-4GBs but since I don't remember its best to stick to 6 or higher. If you're going to use OSX as your primary (main) system with all your data there or at least using it to work with you data then I would say use more space. 10-15-20-40GB, etc. what ever you think is approperate to you. Just make sure it’s not less than 6GBs. Hope that helps --------------------- Booshi I honestly don't know. Sorry. Maybe try and borrow one just until you burn it or put it on your external HD and take it to someone who does have a DVD burner. I think I’ve heard of ways you can install from the hard drive but do not know how.
