We won't be seeing a third party kernel for quite some time. Apple didn't release the sources. Though, Apple doesn't release an open-source kernel, it just releases the source code. All we have to do now is to wait for a distro (or an installer package/mach_kernel). The only thing the distro does for us, is bundle it all in one package, and make it simple and easier for people to use.
