Hey,

I'm begining to think more and more its possibly my processor.

I have a Core Duo 3.4ghz Intel chip that I ripped out of a Dell a couple of years ago that had a dead motherboard.

Anyone have any clues, I can't get a vanilla 10.5.6/7/8 kernel working only voodoo runs...

I do have the same processor, and the same black screen with snow kitty.....

Leopard (ideneb) works with Voodoo only !

So the big question now is.....how can we install Voodoo instead of Vainilla with Snow leopard?

AHA!!!!!

Have you tried the kernel that people are using for AMD processors?

Thats obviously been mod'd maybe that'll solve it

Ummm or perhaps maybe I should just buy a new shiny processor....

hi,

I have succesfully installed Universal Snow 3.4 on P5W but... yes there is but... few minutes after startup I got a kernel panic

any idea what it can be? or how to diagnose it?

the install is extremely easy - just burn and install

please can anybody tell what could be my problem with internet?

it worked just one time.

network says it is connected, in leopard it works without any probs.

can it be some bios setting?

goto System Preferences > Network > select your Network Interface from the left panel > click on Advanced > click on TCP/IP tab and tell us those information.

try open a Terminal and type:

traceroute 4.2.2.2

and paste the result here.

Doesn't seem to be a network connectivity problem, go to Network > Advanced again and check the DNS tab.

Might wanna add 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 as your DNS Servers and move the current one to the bottom.

Let me know if you can get it to sleep and wake.

That's the only thing left for me too.

Hey guys,

first off, this forum is just terrific. With all you guy's help, I was able to get Snow Leopard to run on my Asus P5w dh Deluxe and I even found a kext setup that enabled restart/shutdown. So thanks a lot to everybody out there contributing to this project. This is really huge to me.

What kind of gave me a bummer about Snow Leopard is that I can't get wifi to work. The Realtek driver just keeps bouncing, but never loads. Has anybody else experienced the same problem? I'd suspect this is a Leopard incompatibility issue and has little to do with the hackintosh setup. Is there a solution? And if there isn't, can someone point me to a wifi USB stick that is Snow Leopard compatible?

Thank you for your help. If I can provide any kexts or setup information, I'd be glad to, but I don't have any deep understanding of what I did.

Regards!

Can the P5W run Snow Leopard with an older BIOS version? I'm still running the original 2302(ish). Can Snow Leo work with this BIOS rev or do I have to update? Is there a preferred BIOS rev number?

I'm not sure, i don't think it is the case.

I need to update my BIOS to 2801 due to the compatibility issue with my CPU.

When you create your DSDT.aml, if you use the acpi patcher, make sure you patch the correct BIOS.

I didn't try the onboard Realtek wifi, but my Netgear WG311T is working OOTB.

I think you can get any WiFi USB as long as the Vendor ID and Device ID is one of the below:

<string>pci106b,0086</string>

<string>pci106b,1c</string>

<string>pci168c,1014</string>

<string>pci168c,13</string>

<string>pci168c,14</string>

<string>pci168c,15</string>

<string>pci168c,16</string>

<string>pci168c,17</string>

<string>pci168c,18</string>

<string>pci168c,19</string>

<string>pci168c,1a</string>

<string>pci168c,1b</string>

<string>pci168c,1c</string>

<string>pci168c,23</string>

<string>pci168c,24</string>

<string>pci168c,2a</string>

<string>pci168c,52</string>

<string>pci168c,55</string>

<string>pci168c,57</string>

<string>pci168c,58</string>

<string>pci168c,58a</string>

<string>pci168c,86</string>

<string>pci168c,87</string>

<string>pci168c,ff1c</string>

<string>pci168c,ff1d</string>

Has anybody else tested the onboard wifi in Snow? Obviously it would be more convenient to find a fix instead of get a separate wifi card or stick.

@ Tommy: Thanks for your answer. How can I find out the Device ID and Vendor ID of a USB stick?

Regards!

Did you try the office driver from Realtek?

Yeah, that's the driver I've been using in Leopard but can't start in Snow Leopard. It just keeps loading without end. I've read that some people said it didn't work at all and some people said it worked in -x32 mode. I thought that -x32 mode would be booted by default in Snow Leopard. But even when I specifically boot with -x32 -s (whatever single user mode does), it still doesn't work.

have you made sure that you booted into 32 bit by running command "uname -a"?

The stdout should return with i386 instead of x86_64.

see below:

root:xnu-1456.1.25~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

and not all kext is loadable in single user mode, boot to full desktop with -x32.

You can make it permanent by add that to kernel flag in Boot.plist, i see no reason to boot to 64bit version if you are not utilizing more than 32GB of RAM.

Success! I ran your test and indeed, my machine didn't boot in 32bit mode even with -x32. I then added arch=i386 to the com.apple.boot.plist and then it did booted in 32bit mode. And even more, the Realtek driver works just like a charm in 32bit mode.

So thanks a billion, Tommy! You really saved my install and made my day!

Regards

Johannes
