I've searched this forum without luck. Running 10.4.6, Screen Saver on my setup won't work (dark screen, no images). Chess also crashes. Also spinning ball & very occasional delay (2-3 times for 4-5 seconds, over a 4-5 hour period) when manipulating directories, text or finder actions. 10.4.3 (SSE3) works without these problems. Comments welcome ...

Operating System:

OS X 10.4.6 by Jas (updated AppleVIAATA.kext & made boot volume active)

AMD_Enabler v1.0a (fixes iTunes preferences and "About This Mac" problems)

Sata working (edit my hardware ID into kext)

Ethernet working

Sound working in/out (AC97)

Hardware:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (working w SSE2 Maxxuss mac_kernel; SSE3 will not work)

Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard (nForce 4)

nVidia 6600 with MacVidia Beta 2 drivers (working)

1 GB OCZ Ram

(p.s., Overclocked to 2.5 Ghz on air and Super fast (2-3 times as fast as my Inspiron 6400 core duo @ 1.67 mhz running 10.4.6 and at least 60% faster than my 20" Intel iMac @2Ghz). GUI response is VERY snappy. It Boots OS X 10.4.6 in 10-12 seconds after apple logo - No Exaggeration !!!)

Since these problems were not evident in 10.4.3 (with or without MacVidia), I decided to try an install from another disk called "Mac Osx 10.4.6 X86 AMD-INTEL". This package appears to have been assembled by Myzar and does not experience the problems I had with the Jas disk (i.e., no screen saver and chess crashing ... and yes I checked the MD5 sums before installing). The combination of kexts in the Myzar package appear to work better with my AMD X2 3800 PC (ASUS A8N32-SLI nForce4 chipset). The myzar package also recognizes both of my ethernet adapters without any additional drivers. The Jas package does, however, work very well with my Dell E1505 core duo Intel laptop (GMA950 graphics).

Thanks to all ... Cheers.
