I am having the same issue, and I first tried ATY_ and it didn't work....

Tried a number of other things and then put ATY_Init.kext back after editing the info.plist to reflect 2GB RAM (I.E. VRam size equals <00000080> ) and I still get the -2048 error message but now in System Profiler I get this for the description for Graphics...

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285:

Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 4294965248 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x05e3

Revision ID: 0x00a1

ROM Revision: netkas.org

Displays:

SAMSUNG:

Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz

Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Rotation: Supported

Television: Yes

VW246:

Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz

Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)

Mirror: Off

Rotation: Supported

So I am at a loss.

Kinda like having a Ferrari firing on two cylinders. QE/CI all enabled and everything is fine except for Pro Apps. I legally own them as well as Snow and 10.5.....

Any help from the gurus?

Hello guys!

I installed SL on my computer but my videocard (XFX GTX 285) didn't work. I tried to put ATY_Init.kext on S/L/E but didn't work. And on /Extra/Extensions but didn't work too. I inserted on com.apple.Boot.plist the entry <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>yes</string> but didn't work. My DSDT.aml hasn't the entry because ACPI Patcher doesn't offer the option to GTX 285, just from GF6100 to 9800GTX.

I don't know what can I do to solve this problem. I have seen users reporting success to install it but they don't say how they got. Anybody can help me?

Has there been any progress on the problem of getting the correct vram to show?

I mean, does the 2gb gtx285 work?

Guys, in order to make FCP to work with 2GB Vram, just follow this instructions and use -2048 instead of 64:

"While it may not run too well, it is possible to get Final Cut Studio 3 to install with less than the 'required' 128MB VRAM.

Control-click on the installer package alias and choose Show Original from the pop-up menu. Control-click the original installer and choose Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Navigate into the Contents » Resources folder. Control-click on the Requirements Checker and choose Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Navigate into the Contents » Resources folder, and then open minsys.plist with Property List Editor, the default (requires Xcode).

Change the value of AELMinimumVRAM from 128 to 64 (or less if you have even less VRAM). The installer will now run normally.

After installing, Control-click on the Final Cut Pro.app in /Applications and choose Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Navigate into Contents » Resources folder. Open the mimsys.plist file found there, and make the same change as above. Repeat for all the Final Cut Studio apps you have installed.

No promises on how well they run with less than 128 MB VRAM, but they do run."
