soscomputer
I am looking to build my own Hackintosh that will be running Final Cut Pro. After searching the posts and internet I have come up with the current configuration. I am looking for components that will make the OS X Leopard install as easy as possible (Also looking to upgrade to Snow Leopard when its released) Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard Processor Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920 DVD SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 22X DVD-R 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner LightScribe Memory OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK Power Supply CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V CPU Cooler Scythe MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compound Tuniq TX-3 Extreme Performance and Exceptional Reliability Thermal Compound I still have not decided on a Video card and was hoping to get some recommendations. The machine will not be used for any sort of gaming, but will focus more on video editing using FCP, Magic bullet, etc. I also would like to be able to run at least dual monitors without spending a ton on the video card. Any help would be appreciated. As for the case I am leaning towards the Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case which is available for $59.95. For the price it seems like a decent case but Im open to suggestions. Any suggestions/changes to my current configuration? I have a nearly identical system and am running an NVidia 9600 GT Overclocked edition and it runs beautifully. Certainly there are faster cards out there, but this one is natively supported by 10.5.7 by using a simple EFI string, no other drivers needed. This is because it is similar to the 9600 found in the MacBook Pros. This card should support OpenCL under Snow Leopard, too. It's the safest and probably cheapest bet. The performance of the system is excellent with FCP. HerbM
soscomputer, I'm building a machine for the same purpose. I, too, need video card help. I'm looking at the 9600 GT that Ricky mentioned. As far as the case, I'm leaning towards the Cooler Master 690: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811119137 Primarily because of these pictures of someone's install: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=...p;highlight=690 Pics 5 & 6 look tidy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179053-intel-i7-gigabyte-ga-ex58-ud5-video-edit-build/#findComment-1234416 Share on other sites

Except the CPU cooler I am running with exactly the same components as you mentioned and it's running damn fine! It's my best hackint0sh i've had so no complaints there. I can't really recommend a videocard as I'm still running with a 8800GT but I think most of new cards are funning fine. For the case also check out the Coolermaster C690. It's very nice and quiet case for low price too. Good luck. Tired of paying premium dollars for a new MacPro. Heres as it is, so far. Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 case and 900 watt Power Supply. Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 MoBoard with Intel Quad Core i7 920 processor and 12 GB OCZ XMP Ready DDR3-1600 RAM SATA CD/DVD Pioneer burner and BluRay Pioneer SATA burner. 1-TB seagate boot drive and 4- 500 GB Seagate SATA drives RAID 0. EVGA 9800GTX+ PCIe 16 lane video card MacOS 10.5.7 (soon to be 10.6) Corsair Hydro H50 water cooler for CPU. Plans to overclock to nearly 4.0 Ghz The Cooler Master case is nearly as good as an Apple case (construction wise) My experience as stated. sjerseyspartan
I had a couple of questions for you guys about the kind of RAM I can use on my hackintosh build. Ill be using the ga-ex58-ud5 motherboard, and i wanted to use Mushkin Enhanced Redline 998805 6 to 12gb. My question is will this RAM work with the mother board? Thank you for all your help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179053-intel-i7-gigabyte-ga-ex58-ud5-video-edit-build/#findComment-1545263 Share on other sites
