Straylight
New warning from Apple with their new firmware update regarding Mac Book Pros, "Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn" Is this warning just Apple protecting itself from lawsuits? Or is it a excessively litigeous answer to "ow this thing is hot"? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17876-why-call-it-a-laptop/ Share on other sites
INFNITE
it's not a laptop, it's a notebook. Apple never refers to it as a laptop Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17876-why-call-it-a-laptop/#findComment-116163 Share on other sites
jgrimes80
They've always advised against using the laptops on anything but a hard surface such as wood or glass. On mine, it runs at 100C <- the borderline of the "specs" what the hell? giraid
100C? no way, that's the boiling point of water. you can cook eggs on that. I think it's unhealthy to put any laptop on your body for long period of time, I always put mine on my stomach to watch DVDs, it usually makes my stomach feel discomfort after a movie. So I stopped doing that. I sould build a small table to on me to mount the laptop. Chrysaor
If it says "100.0" exactly, thats probably a sensor error. I doubt your CPU can last at that high temperature. jgrimes80
it's within specs... it's gotten hotter... I just installed the firmware update, now it won't go over 100. today; it's always a solid number idle Full Load Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17876-why-call-it-a-laptop/#findComment-116221 Share on other sites
Chrysaor
Thats way too hot. No wonder you get that high temps, look at Apple's instructions on how to apple thermal paste on a MacBook.. I would open it and apply paste correctly or send to Apple. jgrimes80
i'm not very technically skilled... (hand tremors) and Apple said there is nothing wrong with my computer; it is "within specs" So I'm pretty stuck. It's only got to last me a year or so... I replace mine at pretty consistent intervals, I'll raise hell if something goes terribly wrong. However, I did implement back-up drives to my setup for the first time (just in case). But that's something I should be doing anyways so I don't really see that as an inconvience. l l V Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17876-why-call-it-a-laptop/#findComment-116227 Share on other sites

ampTK
Are they still using those huge ammount of paste? I would have thought they stoped that. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17876-why-call-it-a-laptop/#findComment-117369 Share on other sites
BRP
Anyone who's opened up an old Mac would would probably know that you need to be prepared to cringe when you open them up (for example...). bptba93
My Toshiba gets close right now it shows 70C just sitting. But when trying to play games or somthing it goes up to around 100C or higher. I can't believe this little Intel Celeron M processor can survive. EDIT: Let me see how hot it gets after playing a little Halo. It went up to 90C.
