scj312
Just got my own OSx86 hardware for my birthday. (500MHz P3 won't do) According to the wiki, it should be fully compatible. It is an Asus P4P800-E Deluxe, and a P4 2.8 GHz socket 470. Also there's 512mb dual channel DDR 400MHz Corsair RAM. I should be cruising once I build it! (Finally finished a torrent download of 10.4.5 after a whole month) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17866-got-my-new-osx86-hardware/ Share on other sites

scj312
Case and PSU are on its way, should arrive sometime next week. Yes I have downloaded the driver for the marvell onto a cd, Id rather use Gigabit than my current add-on ethernet. scj312
Also, for QE support: Should I use my current FX 5200? I hear that the 865 does not have QE support on 10.4.5 yet. Which one would be better to use at this point in time? scj312
I feel like an idiot now I am on my new box, however my old XP install seems to only work on the other box. Im going to have to reformat, meaning that I have to re-download OS X Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17866-got-my-new-osx86-hardware/#findComment-119940 Share on other sites

bigboss
unfortunately, for qe and ci support, you will need a gma 9x0 card or an ati card.. you cant get a gma since its a mobo integrated vga, but ati cards are easy to come across. pick up an x600 or an x800 agp version. scj312
Typing this from OS X I think I will hold of on a new vid card and wait for Macvidia's support. The Macvidia driver is working great for right now. Also is there a way to login to root? munky
sudo -s logs you in as root in a terminal session. afaik there's no way to run the whole GUI as if you're root... Korrupted
Yes you can, if you don't have Automatic Login on. You click "other...", then type in System Administrator or root, and the password, then login. Note: You need to have the root user enabled, first. amdprophet
Sounds like a nice little system for OS X x86. I'm planning on buying an Intel system (even though I'm a harsh AMD fan) once the EFIx86Project comes up with a way to flash Apple's EFI onto our Intel EFI boards. Just a note, I've found disabling hyperthreading in the BIOS to make noticable speed improvements. scj312
This system doesnt have HT. I have been using OS X as my main OS now. It even boots faster than XP (8 seconds of grey apple logo) and in general is more responsive. I have started developing my website on it instead now also, using TextWrangler (very nice proggy btw). Everything works (all hardware, software, etc) except DVD Player. Not sure what's going on there. DVD drive is still working...
