Junio Vitorino calm down... the reason it doesn't install is because it was meant for 10.4.1.. you just need to replace the kext the installer is using with this one: http://scifi.pages.at/ffm-2/CMI8738PCIAudi...6.4-1043.tar.gz

then run the install.sh file with that new kext file in there and away you go..

"You need restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button."

And not stoped with this. All time than i use some app than it use the sound, it send me the same message, to for it empty my trash the system lock, several troubles are happening after i loaded this kext, but i find than we are in the correct path.

My CMI8738 is 5.1 and not 5.5, Antman you find than this can be a trouble?

ok.. bad news I am afraid.. that driver works perfect with the card that is not 5.1... if your card has the extra output for more than 2 speakers to be hooked up no one has eve developed a driver for that card. you will want to find the card that has just the 2 channel outputs. In my sound it says my sound card is: CMI8738-v37. this card is perfect. this page shows what one looks like.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006UZJ6...glance&n=541966 That is the card I have to a tee.. if I remember the discussion when I got mine I was told the other one doesnt work. I am sure if someone were to work on that driver they could get it to work. Sorry guys..

then you need to post the kext you were using on 10.4.1 and it will need to be recompiled for 10.4.3-6, were you able to load the one i posted? Cause with my 2channel I have no probs I believe I steered away from the 5.1 because of this prob but if your 10.4.1 kext you were using worked than it can just be recompiled..

i've tried some old pci 5.1 soundcard flying round.

on the packing its written that this card has a c-media 8738 chip

so i edit the info.plist with the right ids..

after successfully loading the kext, mac os x frezze with the black 'you need to restart' - screen

if i load the sound system-preference or play the first sound :/ ( also in safe boot mode :/ )

systemprofiler tells no soundcard.

its only recognized under pci-cards with type audio..

  • 3 weeks later...

hey everybody

..here´s how i fixed the same problem (..a little unusual way i guess..)

..downloaded the "Kernel_Debug_Kit_10.4.6_8l1119.dmg" from (..k**k my a$$, i´m not sure anymore, but i guess it was..)

http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/

..made reboot - pressed "Shift" ´till that that apple-ring ran

(in other words: i booted in Safe Mode :smoke:

..cleaned up

/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches

/System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

/System/Library/Extensions.mkext

/Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS

in /Library/Caches, removed all "com.apple.LaunchServices"

(found that on an external link: www.macosxhints.ch - after googling)

..took IOAudioFamily.kext out of that package, replaced that one in

/System/Library/Extensions/

(..i placed CMI8738PCIAudio.kext there before cleaning..)

went to terminal:

sudo -s

<keyword>

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

kextload /System/Library/Extensions/IOAudioFamily.kext

kextload /System/Library/Extensions/CMI8738PCIAudioDriver.kext/

..and: here we go again with sound [REEL BIG FISH RULES!!!] after a little reboot :D

*gg* ..did this (detailed statement) for all that poor little su**ers, that -i hope so- won´t go as nuts as me by searching for a little help..

enjoy

[if you can´t find that .dmg you might contact me - it´s just about 24.4 mb and my

a«u®€u$ is running most of time..]

Hello,

I got a L-8738-6C (5.1 version) to work great with JaS 10.4.7 using the IOAudioFamily.kext from JaS 10.4.6 and the CMI8738PCIAudioDriver.kext

;)

Big thanks to dogbert for this driver.

I hope we'll have audio input working too one day. Keep the good job !

Great! BigBogus, after endless fighting this solved my CMI8738 problem: it's working great, I'm thinking that the Kext shipped has more strict version control than the one in the debug kit. Vielen Dank

Humm. don't get it installed. BigBonus seemed like he had it right for me, but every time I check (and reboot) the system gives me "No Audio Devices".

So I checked the system profiler; told me there where no PCI cards except for my Network card... Weird.

It's a Sweex 4.1 Audio card with, of course, the CMI 8738 chipset.

I'll try it out in windows first, see if it works there at all >.>

// Edit

Nope, windows gives me a "No Resources error".

I should try inputting the vendor and device id's... Yeah, I'm trying that first.

Still odd Sys. Profiler doesn't pick anything up.

//Edit No.2

YES. Seemed a hardware error >.>. This works mighty fine right now!
