Thanks for all your hard work guys!

Also, welcome Digg! Poke around the site a little - if you're looking to do more with your Intel Mac, you've come to the right place.

Edit: For those interested in the right and left sensors under the mouse button (as was discussed at the beginning of this thread) and talking about getting them to work separately, I've made a new thread for discussion on the topic. Let's see what we can come up with...

I would just like to say that you rock and thanks for not making us wait till 10.4.7.

:)

You know, the fact that this will be released for the rest of us as soon as 10.4.7 is out is really the only reason I did it... and the fact that it's already released software. I don't need any trouble from Apple Legal...

i got the same error when i pluged my mighty mouse, so i tried the repair disk permissions under disk utilities and it fixed it

Interesting. Glad to hear a simple fix resolved it.

Does this work on Powerbooks?

.:: Edit ::.

Dammit.... *Insert Fuming Directed at Apple* no this doesn't work on Powerbooks...

Can you at least share what modifications you made to the driver?

I mad no modifications to the drivers. I copied 5 things over:

/System/Library/PreferencePanes/Keybopard.prefPane

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MachineSettings.framework

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleADBKeyboard.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleADBMouse.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext

The last 3 were probably not even needed. These are all from current shipping 10.4.6, but they are all Intel Builds... Sorry dude. Perhaps I'll have to build a PPC fixer?

This is for 15" MacBook Pro only!!!

Hey, if you want this feature on you Powerbook, install "iScroll2". It is freeware and enables all the features that the new Macbooks can do:

two finger scrolling, two-finger right-clicking, and even circular scrolling (think of it as an iPod motion to scroll).

http://www-users.kawo2.rwth-aachen.de/~razzfazz/iscroll2/

Hey, I have installed the driver. it works great! Thanks.

But there's something missing. When my mbp restarts I can't right click with two fingers. But after starting "Keyboard & Mouse Preference" then I can use the right click again.

So it seems that the driver doesn't get loaded when the OS loads.

Any ideas?

Yes please, a PPC version.

Has anyone tested this? It will obviously be do-able as PB supports the two button scroll so its merely a driver issue, anyon know if the beta .7 adds this on PB's?

Oh, nono... You missed what I said.

I suggested that maybe I should make a PPC restore for those people who ran this thing without realizing that their G4 PowerBooks don't support it (yet, maybe never from Apple.)

We aren't inventing features, we're filling a hole in the current product line until Apple can get us the official software update. There's no word yet wether Apple will officially support this on G4s... but if iScroll is any indication- the answer is a swift no.

There's probably another hook somewhere that we're missing. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this, since Apple could release 10.4.7 tomorrow and make it all null. Besides, the more we change, the harder it may become to restore it.

works on my 15 MBP, except it does not automatically load at startup, I have to go into the preference pane, unselect the checkbox, then reselect it, then the secondary click will work. I also have to reload it after sleep.

Please fix it, who knows when 10.4.7 will be released :D

Ugh. I'm excited that this fix exists, but it isn't working on my 15" MBP (10.4.6). I get the new preferences tab (with the checkbox for "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click") but it doesn't respond. I thought there might a conflict with DoubleCommand. But I have uninstalled that and still not getting the double-finger-right-click event to fire.

I've reverted to the original files (brilliant to include that, BTW) and gone through several reboots and combinations, but still no luck.

Hopefully 10.4.7 will be released soon. But does anyone else have any ideas to try in the meantime?

Thanks again for work. What an awesome community.

They aren't actually the original files, they are copies of the files that are supposed to be there in your Intel build of 10.4.6, just in case the next Software update needs them.

Outside of maybe rebuilding permissions... not really. There are so many variables that might be the cause I'd only be speculating. Maybe the plist isn't writable? Maybe the app you installed is still conflicting? Hard to say.

I have a MBP 15'' and doesn't work. I first downloaded what was at the start of the topic (the framework) and overwritten the original. Nothing appeared after restarting. Then used the installers to put the new one and didn't work (it dispklays the feature but does nothing). Installed the old one, restarted, then the new one again, restarted, and same again.

It sucks when something that's supposed to work doesn't... Most of the time I have luck though. Could there be differences in the MBP hardware between weeks of manufacturing?

BTW Just went to iScroll 2 page and tried to install.. FYI doesn't work with tintel macs (to force right click if doesn't work otherwise)

What could be wrong?

Well, from what I gather:

- the Preference Pane sets the option in your preferences (plist)

- the Framework looks for the setting in your preferences and activates it if set.

So, if you set it and it doesn't stick next time you open it, it sounds like either a prefPane or plist issue.

If you set it and it sticks, but doesn't do anything, it sounds like your framework is not working right.

The permissions of all of these files should be: Owner: System (root) with Read/Write - Group: Wheel with Read only - Others: Read Only. Try selecting the framework and Get Info, then set your permissions (you will need to authenticate first) and then copy those permissions to all enclosed items.

Then restart and see if the setting takes effect.

YES! Please release a PPC restorer. I can't use my mouse on my PB anymore. Thank you!

As you wish. Give this a try and let me know if it all comes back.

PPC (IE: PowerBook) File Restoration ONLY!!! DO NOT run this on your MacBook Pro!!!

John, you are KING of the Geeks!

I just realized my issue had nothing to do with permissions ... it was a PEBKAC! All I needed to do was RTFS (screen).

I was expecting to click with two fingers on the pad to get the context menu. But, because I had "Clicking" checked, the secondary option reads "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click."

When "Clicking" is not checked, the secondary option reads "Place two fingers on the trackpad and click button for secondary click".

My guess is that it worked as promised from the beginning, but because I didn't read the text closely I wasted a lot of time trying to fix what wasn't broken.

Great work, John! MBP early adopters are thankful for your efforts!

hi all.

i am new to the world of mac and i have a mac book pro.

I'm only going to answer once though... if that's ok.

Seriously, I highly recommend reading the entire thread before you do anything. If you don't, you may miss something very important... and because of that fact a few people have already messed up their Mac.

If you don't know, read up. You'll thank me later.

Mega DUH!!!

It was always working.. DUH!! Damn myself.. RTFS!!!!!

Yeah. Working like a charm.. Never noticed the instructions.. Sorry.

I love this. Thank you so much for your effort. Sometimes I'm too lazy to reach for that control key, and this makes the perfect solution for that. Has anyone found a fix for maintaining the setting after boot?

Mine does... so I'm a bit lost as to why yours would not.

Maybe trash your preference file? Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systempreferences.plist

Then tweak your System Preferences after restarting and see if they stick then.
