lonerdj
Ok so i figured how to change the machine name before i saw someone posted it here. But I figured that wasnt good enough because if theres such spyware on this, it'll read ADP2,1 anyhow. So I took it further and hacked it to say "iMac,1". THIS IS NOT FOR NEWBIES. DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Heres how: DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damages or anything bad from this hack. Do this at your OWN RISK! 1. Navigate to /System/Library/Extensions 2. MAKE A BACKUP OF AppleACPIPlatform.kext (i.e. sudo tar zcvf AppleACPIPlatform.tgz AppleACPIPlatform.kext) 3. cd to AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/MacOS 4. Hex edit AppleACPIPlatform binary with an editor of your choice. 5. Search for "ADP2" and replace it with "iMac" without the quotes of course. (i.e. "ADP2,1" to "iMac,1") 6. Save, remove the kernel caches, repair perms 7. Reboot You now have an "iMac" . From my years of experience with computers, I strongly do not think this will affect anything. I tried it on my own computer and it works fine. All ACPI functions works as expected. If there is the source code for this kext, please post a reply with the link to the apple's website pointing to the source code. Otherwise, do my bruteforce . Here is my screencap from sysprofiler: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17564-change-your-machine-model/ Share on other sites

lonerdj
I dont think you've read my post.. at least read this one: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?s=...ndpost&p=112765 the other one is what i've used before. it only change the description essentially but the model is still "ADP2,1" which can be read by any app. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17564-change-your-machine-model/#findComment-113478 Share on other sites

phor2zero
okay, I've played around with this, but how did you get your "CPU Type" to show something different than "Machine Model"? I've followed your directions and it works, but now both my Machine Model and CPU Type are listed as "sMac,1".
