Well I'm kind of in a similar boat as you. I did a clean install of 10.4.6. iTunes runs and all, but hangs if I open System Preferences. It grays out as if the preferences window is open, but it isn't.

Upon trying to install a new version of iTunes, the installer hangs. The same happens if I try to update iTunes via Software Update.

You just have to install the AMD_Enabler.. All my problems solved when i installed it.. Don't use the patch on the dvd, it's corrupted.. Use the one I attatch.. :) Extract it to the root folder..

Boot into -s mode

Then -mount a

cd /AMD_Enabler

sudo ./patcher cpuid_patches.txt

reboot

enjoy.. :)

I tried this however software update still hangs trying to install itunes. Any ideas anyone?

iTunes seems to have a problem with AMD CPUs in 10.4.4 and up. This is still a bug that is being worked out and should (hopefully) be done soon.

iTunes has worked for me with no problems in all versions of OS X from 10.4.1 to 10.4.6 on my AMD64 3000+ (using maxxuss' AMDEnabler in 10.4.4 onwards). This is not an iTunes problem as i have the same problem with the java update. Any body out there have any ideas on how to repair this?
