Redliner
lol, 2009: the year that there were more threads of the year than we can count! texta
Basically The Layout and Look of This Forum Sucks, Not Just this one but any other forum i've signed up to. looks, feel and works the same. it is as if it is a generic Template everybody is just cutting and pasting and saying "oh yeah i've stared an online Forum Website" Now i know For most of us Hacintosh users this is the starting point in our journey to freedom, but once we adhere to the mac Culture of think Differently. one should think you should have found a way to rethink the way forum websites are created. for one is not user-friendly ( Most of the noobs who post silly questions instead of looking up the topic are just alienated by the way this website was created) One thing i've noticed since converting to the Mac, is there are some really smart Programmers out there. that even Microsoft Doesn't Know of. i Know the Insanely Great Community has some really brilliant DVD makers and Programmers to Boast of, But i cant say that of those who designed and Implemented this site. Yes call it what you want "I said It" Biting The hand That Feeds Me i think In the End Our Goal In Spending so much Time to Making Sure We Use The Mac, One should think U would start using the left side of your brain and Construct this forum from the ground Up. with all the signatures of osx out there. that even a 12 year old mac programmers would incorporate in their Mac apps and web designing. Because This Website Forum Definitely Reeks of C++ and maybe Publisher There're Tons of way To re-think the way to write his website to look work and feel more like a creative genius Website. PHP, Ajax, Rub on Rails you just Name it. WTF!? C++ and Publisher. How the the fark did you come up with such rubbish. Please, if you're going to make a thread to complain and rant, make sure you actually have prior knowledge to the subject. Yes, I still support the original theme by ignorantcow...but to be honest, the new "Insanely Lucid" design has been fixed up to have the same if not better functionality. The only thing we need to fix now is the irrelevant and annoying ads, as well as the odd empty spaces everywhere. Bluprint101
I'm going to first address the original topic. This site is most definitely NOT written in C++/Publisher. The core forum functionality is a commercial product called Invision Power Board and is widely accepted to be one of the best forum solutions out there. I suggest that if you have gripes with them about their "C++/Publisher" esque website design you contact them. Your first point "i'll like to see more CSS, Ajax, PHP and Other Web Applications Infused In the Forum Design, and More Server based programming" actually makes no sense at all. The website itself is written in PHP (that's what the .php means at the end of index in the url). The styling is all done in CSS and is specific enough to include mozilla-specific styles. Adding additional features to the forums presents a few problems. The web masters of InsanelyMac did not produce the software in this forum. While it would certainly be possible to modify the codebase to support such features virtually all of the people on this forum have real lives and real jobs which prevent such a massive time commitment. Effort spent in these areas is in essence "icing on the cake" since it does very little to improve core functionality or increase usability. AJAX functionality is already included in the forum such as notifications about receiving PMs (btw the "Sent Items" folder is a log of your sent PMs...). While there are certainly areas of improvement this forum could undertake there are elements of interface design that you break only if you have a good reason. The forum is laid out as such because that is the way all forums are laid out. A different design would have to be a significant improvement over previous designs otherwise you will get frustration and confusion from people who cannot find UI elements. A pristine example of this is the new version of Office. The new "Ribbon" gave Microsoft a large backlash from users who did not know where common UI elements had gone. In Microsoft's case, however, the Ribbon turned out to be a positive change that improved their overall UI (some people disagree on this, however. That is NOT the core of this argument.). This does not mean this situation will always apply and probably won't apply in the case of InsanelyMac. I noticed that all of your points (those that I read; your typing is atrocious) were all negative. To what end does that serve? You offered no solutions just "I would like to see...". I feel that is a large problem on this forum. There are a minority of people with the programming talent/documentation talent/pick-a-talent to get things done here and a large majority of people who do nothing but sit back and complain about how much they would "like" to see or how little "progress" has been made. I am including you in this category. You offered no solutions to your complaints. You made no attempt to even understand the technologies you quoted in your first point (don't try and argue this one, simply listing CSS/PHP was enough to show you have no idea what you are talking about). If you are going to be making posts such as these I HIGHLY suggest typing in a format that is readable to most people. While your excuse is you "think faster than you type" I am calling baloney. The sheer number of capital letters is testament to this (since they are, by nature, slower to type since they have an additional key you must press). In the following "sentence" "How come i never feel that all my PM went thru and i dont have a log for all me sent messages " you write the word "me" instead of "my". That is not "thinking too fast". That is poor English/typing skills. Please attempt proper grammar/sentence structure/capitalization/diction when you create a post. If that requires you to "slow down" then by all means do it so that the rest of us mortal beings can and are willing to read and follow. Remember that if native English speakers (such as myself) find issues with your posts non-native speakers may not give it the time of day. In an international forum such as this posting in clear, correct English is the best way of getting your voice heard by the most people. Well taken, I guess i could say there has been a lot of misconception in this thread. Maybe on the whole issue too. Some on my part, Some from others who passed through. Maybe people would have looked passed all the rhetoric to what i was actually saying, If i took a different route. I'll take the blame for that. An epic mistake on my part. I guess everybody had something to say with every reply, useful, helpful, harsh or not. We all said something... The bottom line is, We love this forum too dam much. We'll shoot down anybody who tries to damnify what we do here. With our backs against the wall we'll swing at anybody who goes at those who made it all possible. The owners, administrators, hackers, dvd makers and geeks who make insanely mac tick. We come here for solutions, hacks, guides and sometimes laughs. We like the way things are and cant control change so we hope change wont happen without us. Its a fair exchange if you come to think of it, A community of mutual benefits. The users, owners, the insanely great hackers and even the Apple Corp itself benefits. If not from each other alone. The community has come a long way, evolved if you may say so. The addition of the osx86 Database has been long awaited and maybe it'll see the community through the coming years. Apple is gradually growing its computer market share. if not in part thanks to the broader apple community Legit or not. But why bother changing that, If wozniak was perfectly happy with earlier pc's he wouldn't have attempted the apple, if you guys were perfectly happy with windows and your various rigs (not saying there's anything wrong with them). I'm just saying you craved for more if not something different, half of the community yes are just end users like me. So what i'll do is 1. Re-write my original post to make sure it conveys the right message. without the rhetoric and errors, and on a calmer more thoughtful informed note. So that People will at least look past all that and can actually suggest other additions, knowing well that we're in no position to do anything about it than voice it out. 2. Take the suggestions to as you pointed out to the makers of Invision Power Board 3. Put it issue to rest plus i think you also need a little pointing out. Being naive enough to think that i don't natively speak english. if there should be such a characterization put to it. and those esthetic enough to claim the english language as their own (natively) lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/163007-insanely-mac-is-one-ugly-piece-of-website-designing/page/2/#findComment-1139201 Share on other sites
SticMAC™
........ plus i think you also need a little pointing out. Being naive enough to think that i don't natively speak english. if there should be such a characterization put to it. and those esthetic enough to claim the english language as their own (natively) lol Firstly, and seeing that your are native to our language, all our sentences start with a CAPITAL letter! Secondly, we use punctuation at the end of our sentences. texta
Quote Removed. Ugh, respect other users, especially senior ones. SticMAC has earned his status on the forums and was simply attempting to teach you some forum etiquette (or English etiquette in general). I've been here since the beginning, but I've been banned a few times. PS: I don't really know if you're a male of female SticMAC. Sorry if I was mistaken! We are doing our best to accommodate the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of guests here. I don't know about you, but when I stay at someone's home... You have crossed the line in your blatant offensiveness. *edit* And yes, sticMac has been more helpful than the vast majority of the members on this forum, please give him due respect, as you haven't earned any. *edit2* sticmac is a he (i know that because he wrote the drivers for the acer aspire one, which he told me he gave to "the missus"... oh wait... can't even assume that nowadays lol) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/163007-insanely-mac-is-one-ugly-piece-of-website-designing/page/2/#findComment-1139223 Share on other sites

It says "Nobody likes a smart-ass" right there on his profile. and i know some people would take sides on this one even those with reputations as long as his. everybody could see that i was trying to correct an issue with both the topic, my rhetoric, my typing. you name it. everybody could see that i was trying too avoid some exchange of words of some sort and revert what i called an epic failure on my part to have people really respond to an issue constructively "Welcome to our forum, and our home". like i'm not a part of that. so i guess you call all those who sign up and take part in this forum as you call it yours merely guest you're accommodating. wonder if thats the right message you want to send out. I didn't mean to disrespect sticMac, My honest apologies if he also didn't mean to disrespect me. in the real world respect is merely earned or lost. so in the end if you read my last post before that, i did say i wanted to redirect all this attention and energy in a different direction. Sorry to have come across other wise. Secondly thank you for fixing those issues. Third I did not say you don't natively speak English. I said your way of posting makes it difficult for non-native speakers to understand. This last post makes it clear that you can and are willing to post in a clear and concise format. If you are chiding me for the usage of the word "native" I suggest you visit a dictionary. Specifically, the definition for native. I ask you to look at definition 7. In this context the word native is most commonly used to describe the language first learned after birth. Thus my usage was indeed correct.
