I've got an 8800GT 512MB. I've got iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6 installed on my machine, with an ABIT IP35 Pro motherboard. Internet works, yadda yadda.

I've tried NVinject, I've tried NVkush, I've tried EFIstudio. I've tried the GFX-EFI method with the tutorial here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=91755

Yes, I deleted the nvinject and what have you before trying the GFX-EFI methods. I've reinstalled with different options about literally fifteen to twenty times.

When Darwin comes up (I've got Chamelon installed now,) I have to type rw=disk0s1...something like that wouldn't make any difference, would it? The fact I don't have Darwin setup to boot without the install disc in the drive. The Darwin screen that comes up says VESA v3.0 14MB (NVIDIA.)

I always get the generic description that comes up when I look at system info. It's almost as if something I don't know about is taking precedence over different methods I'm trying, like a kext I don't know about.

Type: Display

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x4

VRAM (Total): 32 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0611

Revision ID: 0x00a2

Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded

If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

Alright, I'm new to this, but I'm learing. I successfully installed 10.5.6 on my Toshiba M105 a couple of weeks ago.

I installed a new bootloader, and I figured out that booting with the DVD was giving me generic video. This is probably common knowledge for most people, but it wasn't for me.

Now I'm going back and forth with injectors and GFX strings trying to get it to work. I keep getting blue screens and the occasional black screen, but at least I'm making progress and I know what I'm doing is affecting the video system.

If one DVI port doesn't work, try the other one. For my 8800GT; the DVI port the closest to the motherboard gave me a black screen.

Avoid using an injector and EFI strings together. I used this tutorial: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=91755

... since 10.5.2 and never had a graphic problem.

Alright, I'll try changing DVI slots. I was using the one closest because that's what a bunch of tutorials said to use. I'm not using injectors and EFI strings together. I've been pretty careful not to, but obviously I'm doing something wrong.

I have big problem with my new 8800GT. I get QE/CI but resuolution goes only to 800x600. Every time I try bigger resolution, i get just blue screen. I instaled iDeneb v1.4 with NVInject 512 selected. Then when I could not resolve the issue, used iDeneb Combo update to go 1.5.7... and is all same. Now I reinstalled iDeneb, with no Video kext selected. And tried EFI strings, got same issue. Blue screen on every resolution except 800x600. I have CRT monitor, can that be a problem? It is Samsung 793DF

Please HELP!!

OK, I think I mixed chronology here. First, I had HD4670 (unsupported) and iDeneb v1.4 instaled. Then I updated with combo update, and did not boot.

Then I inserted 8800GT, and had no QE/CI. Then I tried with editing EFI strings, and gat QE/CI working but lost 1024x768 and got 800x600 instead. Blue scren on anything other. Then I reinstaled with NVInject selected, all the same. Updated to 10.5.7, still same.

And now, I reinstaled with no video kext slected, and it WONT BOOT! OS X loads completly, then, insted showing desktop monitor goes on Stand By mode, and no picture. Like computer is shut down. Except it is not. It works, and I can hear HDD working when I hit keyboard shorcuts, which means that OS X is loaded and runing, "just" no picture.

WTF is happening? I just bougt 8800GT to replace unsuported 4670, and now it won't work either ;)

Why it shuts down my screen?

That tutorial did not help.

I did litle testing. Instaled iDeneb again, with NVInject 512 selected. And booted fine with QE/CI and 1024x768 resolution. Then I was thinking: "finaly reasonable resolution, not great, but I don't have great screean either". Then I restart my computer, and when booted, blue screen again. No pointer, nothing... but OS X works, I can hera sound. Restarted few times more, same thing. No picture. Tried -f, then -x, i can start it with -x but on 800x600 i and when change, screen goes blue.

Then I called a friend, to borrow me his LCD for testing. It is 4:3, 19'', DVI.Maximum resoliution 1280x1024. I pluged in an it worked with max resolution. Restarted few times, still working. Then tried to change resolution to lower just to see, and got blue screen. Then I restarted and it automaticly changed resolution back to 1280x1024 and worked fine. Restarted few more times just to be sure, and always boots fine. But friend was in a hurry, and needed his screen, so could not let me do more testing. Like reinstaling with no video kext selecting, and then trying GFX strings and so on.

So I still do not know if it is normal to not have any picture (monitor shuts down) when I instal iDeneb v1.4 with no video kexts selected. That was with my CRT monitor, did not tried with LCD. But I do know that newer heapened with my old HD4670, and with HD4670 I never selected any kexts, because there is no any.

Please give me some clarification here, I don't want to buy new monitor and still get no picture when don't select kexts. How then can I install retail, because there is no video kexts on retail DVD. Al must be done later, and I dont know how to do GFX strings blindly.

I just want to know what is the problem.

1.Is CRT screens unsupported?

2.Why is shuts down my screen when using no kexts?

3.Is that happening with LCDs too?

I got almost the same spec as you. And my system is working perfectly, QE and CI, and I also play a lot on this machine (Sims3, WoW, War3, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3), evrthing full resolution and detail running smoothly.

But, I used the IPC PPF5 version of 10.5.6 release. And used the nvdarwin 512mb kexts.

Hope this helps.

You should have native drivers built into the OS. The only thing you should have to do is just add the EFI strings and that's it.

I have a 9800GTX. I installed xXx 10.5.6 and didn't select any kext options whatsoever for the video card. Once I was loaded into the leopard desktop I just used efi studio to add the strings and that was it. 100% functional.

change your DVI port

I tried with changing DVI port. All the same. I also tried with other CRT monitor. Hansol 730E. All the same. It boots 1 of 5 tries.

EDIT: It is connected with DVI to VGA adapter which came with graphics card. This CRT don't have DVI. Both of them dont have DVI.
