HyperThreading... or Dual Core Intels...

I'm curious how OS X reports HyperThreading. I've never really heard much about it until the whole Apple/Intel alliance in June...

How does OS X show that you have HyperThreading? Does it show an extra "cpu" in the activity monitor? Is the machine noticeably faster vs. similar hardware without it?

Anyone running this beast on a Dual Core Intel P4? How does it show up there?

Inquiring minds want to know... :)

At the boot prompt put in PLATFORM=ACPI that enables HTT for osx i noticed that if i do PLATFORM=X86PC HTT is disabled.although it should come up,Try the forced booting method

Did you install from the dvd or use the image and dd it to your hard disk?

This is true, the ACPI flag. However, supposedly OS X is faster (in xbench) anyway with HT disabled...

Does anyone have a dual core? I'm curious if its possible to run xbench and only utilise half the core (disable SMP or whatever) and see if it runs faster...or if it just a HT problem with OS X currently.

Hmm, on my machine, I tested 2 cpus.. P4 551 & 640...

551 doesn't show anything on System Preferences tap, once I changed it to 640, an icon is showed, and it can be loaded on taskbar... and I can enable/disable HyperThreading.... It's only available for 640...
