iRipper
It's the first beta, released to see the reactions and gather data. I hope Apple will make some adjustments. derekreid
Had to run these three terminal commands before I got it the way I like it: Awesome, the lack of the blue progress bar and the location of the tabs were the only things I didn't like. Thanks, fixed now. I'm having trouble with my hotmail, my inbox loads fine but none of the links work...anyone else having trouble? Master Chief
Firefox 3.1? Outdated much. I'm on 3.2 nightlies bro. Good to see that so many of you are using Firefox, because to me OSS is the future. Note: Ordinary end-users should use Firefox v3.0.6, and interesting technogeeks are encouraged to test the official Beta's - extension authors/developers should keep an eye on Firefox 3.2 (nightly builds) from mozilla-central for compatibility testing. /me is Linux and Mac build engineer, and thus I am using the tip builds myself, be it with a fake HTTP User Agent. Tip: A new browser UI is being worked on by Mr Tab himself (HJ van Rantwijk) and he will introduce something much better and really innovative, and Apple might get it first... that is if they pay him enough (but I don't think so). DownshiftDX
Rubbish. Now I now I know I won't be switching to Safari anytime soon. Cons: -Can't double click to open tab - it minimizes window instead -Need to click on the right edge of the tab to drag the tab - instead of drag tab from anywhere. -Can't close a tab using mouse wheel. -Tab bar at the top with the decreased usability of the tabs is an absolute nightmare!! -Opening a new page from the "top sites" page is a bit sluggish. -Blue progress bar removed from address bar - just a spinning wheel instead. -The "top sites" feature is a rip off of "most visited" menu of firefox. Pros: -Score 100 in acid3 test!! Yay -Seems to handle websites much better than safari 3 and even Firefox. -The new "top sites" page is really useful, but still needs a lot of work! This is just my first impressions. I haven't had the time to review it all, but that was enough to make me stick with firefox. Gotta say I agree with everything you said. Moreover, I find the "top sites" completely useless as it was showing 3 sites I actually go to, the rest were just randomly chosen. And by random I mean not from any of my bookmarks at all and to sites where ad revenue would be useful for companies. (New York Times, Yahoo!, etc... places I never go.) I like the space saving on my MacBook of having a unified tab bar / window title bar but it just doesn't work. It is clumsy to change tabs, closing a tab doesn't switch back to the previous viewed tab when you followed a link, clicking a tab often leads to dragging the window by accident for a pixel, etc... all of which I sent to Apple in bug reports. Lastly, why was the reload / stop button integrated into the right side of the address bar away from the other navigation buttons? Why do these designers, at every company, seem to enjoy changing simple things for no apparent reason instead of working on really useful features? You can change the position of the toolbar items. Right-click somewhere in the toolbar, select Customize, and click and drag items. Ryu-ka
You can change the position of the toolbar items. Right-click somewhere in the toolbar, select Customize, and click and drag items. I've tried right-clicking all over the toolbar, but all it says is "add new folder". Kind of confusing. Otherwise, looks good; very fast. Rubbish. There's more Cons than Pros right now anyway. As far as I can tell the reload icon within the address bar cannot be moved. The whole thing along with the add bookmark button. (Because everybody adds so many bookmarks that the button needs to be on screen all the time.) AND, any have the same problems? safari quits with an error everytime i closed the safari the cross on the top. (might be due to i'm actually using voodoo 10.5.5) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/154735-safari-4-public-beta/page/2/#findComment-1092108 Share on other sites
