My System

GA-EX58-UD3R Motherboard

Intel Core i7 920

6 Gb DDR3 1600 Ram 3 channel

1 TB WD SATA Drive

ASUS DVD/RW IDE Drive

PNY Nvidia 9800GT 1024 Mb

Install Media iAtkos 10.5.5 DVD

In Bios set Onboard SATA/RAID Device to IDE AHCI & Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to AHCI

Boot the iAtkos dvd.

Press F8 to enter Kernel Flags

enter busratio=20 * Note 1

continue booting

Use the Voodoo 10.5.5 kernel

Install Realtek RTL1000 Ethernet, Intel ICH AHCI drivers, & Jmicron IDE

when finished reboot and don't forget to enter busratio=20 -f -v for the first boot

After you setup your user account open up terminal and type 'su nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist then enter your password

where it says

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

put busratio=20 between the <string> and </string>

like this '<string>busratio=20</string>'

then save the file

then download the 10.5.6 update and install it.

After the reboot you can then use OSX86 tools to install the Display and sound Kexts Included in this post. (AppleAzalia kext may cause problems with sound)

If you have a Geforce 9800GT with 1024 MB of Vram then you can use OSx86 tool to add this string to com.apple.boot.plist

EFI_String_video_Card.rtf

Reboot and you should have sound and QE/CI.

* Note 1 busratio is set to the cpu clock ratio (a Intel Core i7 920 is 20)

I used EFI V 9

If it says waiting for root drivers You selected the wrong storage device drivers.

I used Nvkush video drivers

and the audio kext from this site http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/Taruga/Leopard...xts/alc888.ad2/

I forgot to add do not use the onboard firewire it does not work.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I just finished doing the same install you did... but I keep getting kernel panics. I suspect the video card, but I'm not sure. I know there are some more complicated ways of adding the driver for the 9800GT... but, I'd like to avoid them if at all possible.

Are you still having success with your install? Any kernel panics?

Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks for posting this, If i'm getting 'still waiting for root' during the install period, is that more a problem with my iso ? or as you mentioned above to not use Chamelos but to use EFI V 9. Is that something you burn to the iso or is that the options you select during install options?

how would i go about using EFI V 9.

edit:: nevermind found out I had iAtkos 4 and not 5

So is everything working flawlessly on the EX58-UD3R?

is there anyway you could go in a bit more depth with your guide for this mobo and your processor (i7 core 920) I'm just about to purchase just about the same system :)

pretty hard to find any kind of guide for this combo of board and processor... even though i feel like there are quite a few people out there with this similar setup!

does the burner need to be IDE or can we use a SATA drive?

Thanks for the guide. I recently got this board, still need to get a few more parts and then will be building.

My DVD drive is IDE I have since went to setting in BIOS RAID/SATA to AHCI and I used the kexts from this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=147102

The only kernel panics I got was from trying the 10.5.6 Voodoo kernel and I just got my 9800GT working without a NVKush by using osx86 tool to put a EFI string in com.apple.boot.plist

EFI_String_video_Card.rtf

Firewire isnt working for me and Sound suddenly stopped working after I got it working with this kext http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/Taruga/Leopard...xts/alc888.ad2/

hehe deleted appleazalia kext and all is fine now.....

I have same mobo and do you share all your kext file for me?

I try to install using boot-132.

Thanks,

Well I never Tried boot 132 method

I used the iAtkos CD

But here are the modified kexts I use

EX58_UD3R.zip

;) I installed 10.5.7 with boot-132 as followings.

i7 920

GA-EX58-UD3R

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX 512 MB

AHCI SATA-II 300G H.D.D.

But, Performance is not reasonable.

The result of Xbench

I got the giga Ex58-UD4P. follow your steps, when first boot, it stuck at

system model name: EX58-UD4P

Then just wait forever....

any idea that could be ?

I used Original Vanilla Kernel and busratio=20 in com.apple.Boot.plist with Boot-132 USB Memory Stick.

Yea, I used DDR3 RAM in 3 channel.

I'm not sure proper kext.

Here is my initrd.img file.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/zd0d213hwlr/initrd.img

In case of 9800 GTX 512MB, I just update info.plist in NVDANV50Hal.kext (?) with com.apple.Boot.plist. QE/CI working.

Vanilla kernel does not work on my X58-UD3R I use 10.5.6 ANV Voodoo Kernel

If you install 10.5.7(9j39), you can use Vanilla Kernel.

And do you use "busratio=20" as boot option?

Try this http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/Taruga/Leopard...xts/alc888.ad2/

I would try it first in efi if it doesnt work then try it on the install partition

OK. I think I've figured out most of the tweaks necessary to get this install working.

One thing nobody has mentioned is getting the system.kext and seatbelt.kext files back to the 9.5.0 version. Upgrading to 10.5.6 apparently upgrades the Darwin kernel to 9.6.0... creating problems mounting disks and plugging in USB devices. Those 9.5.0 files can be found on here and uploaded using OSx86 tools pretty easily. But, it took me a while to figure out that they were the problem.

Also, here's what I still have left to fix. My XBench scores are great, except in disk performance. I think that's b/c I used the IDE settings you used to have in your instructions. I have since gone back and changed them to AHCI in both places. I can see the AHCI screen on boot now, too. I did install the IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext from your download. Do I need to install any others to get to AHCI from IDE? Or, do I just have to do a full reinstall of the OS? Any help is appreciated.

Well I have LegacyAppleAHCIPortIntelICHx.kext(It contains a plist only you you do need IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext with it) for the 6 SATA (not the 2 Raid SATA) and JMicronATA.kext for the IDE so it shows in the profiler under ATA in the profiler
