The revolutionary iPhone appears to be using a patent technology from Scottish firm Picsel Technologies:

"You've probably never heard of Picsel Technologies, but the Scottish company claims that its technologies are in over 250m handsets worldwide from manufacturers like Motorola, Nokia, Palm, Samsung and Sony Ericsson -- and, if a lawsuit it filed today is to be believed, Apple...."

Would it be smart for Apple to get into another legal battle, seeing as they're already fighting with Psystar over OS rights?

Everyone wants to Sue Apple; they have like $28 billion lying around...

Why is their stuff so expensive if they have that much?

Gee, another "I invented" lawsuit...

[rant]

These patent lawsuits do nothing but hinder progress and development. It makes people scared of developing because they don't want to trample on people's toes.

Did you know we have the technology to make cars that will go 200 miles off of a single battery charge, yet we don't have them because the company that has the patent is buddy buddy with big oil?

Also, most of these "I invented lawsuits" are based off the conceptual patent, or idea patent. Submit your idea (not a working model, but just an idea) and you can get a patent and sue Apple also!

Of course this is only a problem when people besides Apple protect their patents :P

In the end, Apple wants TOTAL and complete control over its users and make sure they do only things approved by Apple. So its Apple to blame for a fall in innovation because its become obsessed with making sure no one does n e thing outside their control, this will not end well for them, but possibly benefit us! B)

Let's try to be reasonably here and take another example: Apple's next iPhone model must have a removable battery (EU law) and this forced Apple to think about other possibilities - they came up with a universal battery charger for a next generation of Apple hardware (patent filed).

Why is Apple doing this? Because this battery/charger is Apple patent technology, so nobody else can manufacture/sell these batteries. At least not without first paying Apple a license fee. That sounds fairly reasonably, at least as long as others can step in (license fee should be fair and reasonably too).

I will be happily using this new technology, but now a car battery company from Germany is looking into the Apple flat battery cell used in the new 17" MacBook Pro, because they invented the flat battery technology, for a car, not Apple.

That is making a mess of things. I guess another lawsuit is imminent, and one of these days people like me are getting sick of Apple.

Of course this is only a problem when people besides Apple protect their patents

And...well, I don't want to engage in name calling over the internet. Apparently, you didn't read the entire rant and instead just focused on the word "Apple," right?

The protection of intellectual properties is a vital piece of all business. Are you seriously saying you would be happy about someone copying your ideas and making a profit?
