If there will be a future release of OSx86 I would hope to see where if XP is loaded first and OSx86 .. is second I'd like to see where the bootmanger can pick up the XP boot.ini and then be able to boot into either one. The whole partitioning thing on XP was a pain in the you know where. I messed with trying to boot into OSx86 for three days and after I finally got the partitian set up and OSx86 installed I still couldn't get it booted up. Thanks.

Huh? I'm a bit confused by what you are asking.

When I installed OS I had a blank drive. I've done it both ways. Installing OS X first and installing XP first. Either way you can partition with either in their respective setups.

The OS X bootloader will detect and present and XP partition for boot by default and XP can be configured to boot from the chain0 file in it's bootloader.

I don't understand the problem your presenting.

Now if you have XP installed presently and are using the whole hard drive and don't have a second drive, then yes you are going to have to partition from Windows. I'm just confused by what you are asking.

Well either install xp second, repair using fixboot (and then using chain0), or install macdrive so you can in fact edit darwin boot options in windows.

I don't see any issues with the current bootloader options. But maybe that's just me. It all seems very simple and easy to use in that regard.

I first had to delete the partitian I created for OSx86 because I wasn't able to install on it. My point I'm trying to make is after I installed OSx86 10.4.4 and rebooted, it booted back into XP. Thats my point. There wasnt' any bootmanager, boot screen that OSx86 presented. No I didn't do allot of editing and configuring, although I realize this is easy and I have spend countless hours editing files, programs, OS, etc, etc, I didn't spend as much time on this one since it is relatively a hacked version that isn't the most stable. I'm anxious for future releases. Thanks.

Good observation skills. What I'm saying is: After installing OSx86 I wasn't able to boot into OSx86, as it booted into XP wihtout giving me any boot options for OSx86.

That shouldn't have happened, but still a quick debug to create the chain0 file and an edit of boot.ini would have fixed that right up in about 30 seconds. :D

easiest method is the the debug method personally.

Go to 'Start Menu' --> Run --> type 'cmd.exe' and hit enter. Now type the following:

1. c: [hit enter]

2. cd \ [hit enter]

3. debug.exe [hit enter]

Now paste the following (the whole thing. just highlight all of it and paste it as a whole thing into the command window):

Close the command-prompt window and open up C:\boot.ini in notepad. At the end, add this line:

c:\CHAIN0="Apple Mac OS X x86"

Save and close the file now.

(you may also want to adjust boot options in the system properties screen of xp for advanced startup options such as timeout)

This will give you quick and dirty dual boot using the XP bootloader.
