Synaesthesia
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/01/13/snow-l...user-interface/ What you guys think? This is what it may look like: Last year, Apple announced that they will be releasing the next major revision of Mac OS X (10.6 Snow Leopard) in 2009. The focus of Snow Leopard has been on performance and quality of the underlying codebase rather than introducing new end-user features. Based on our sources, however, Apple will apparently use Snow Leopard's release to tweak the overall user interface for Mac OS X and unify it across applications. Exact details of the theme changes have not been made public, as the current developer seeds for Snow Leopard still retain Apple's existing Aqua theme. The new theme will likely involve tweaks to the existing design and perhaps a "flattening" of Aqua in-line with Apple's iTunes and iPhoto interface elements. The codename for the new interface is said to be "Marble" -- though that seems likely to be an internal codename only. John Gruber had also hinted at such changes in a pre-Macworld prediction piece and had independently heard the codename "Marble". Ai Haibara
A new build may be approaching: http://launchd.macosforge.org/trac/changeset/23780 <rdar://problem/6485062> 10A245: launchd logging errors about Bug: launchd_core_logic.c:2902 <rdar://problem/6485067> 10A245: launchd logging errors about Bug: launchd_core_logic.c:3051 <rdar://problem/6486016> 10A245: launchd logging many exited/killed message to system.log This has been submitted 5 days ago. Meanwhile, some sources say that the latest "stable" build is 10A246, while 10A250 is floating around Cupertino. Next release is expected to be issued by the end of january. Anyway, even if the rumor is true, I doubt "marble" will be in this build. scottishduck
Very likely this will be a theme similar to what the iPhone is using. Embio
ah that's a point - I really hope not though :-( I've sort of lost interest in Snow now the builds aren't leaking, it sucks. Paranoid Marvin
There are some interesting UI tweaks in the latest iLife, particularly in Garageband and iMovie A lot of the darker elements have got a little more gloss and colour. I can imagine Snow Leopard would include all these tweaks. It makes sense that they'd have minor UI tweaks to differentiate between releases - look at 10.2 compared to 10.3 compared to 10.4, it was nothing major, they just phased out pinstripes gradually and added a little more gloss. I think we can expect a new UI similar to the 10.3 -> 10.4 jump, nothing major Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147252-rumor-new-interface-in-snow-leopard/#findComment-1057979 Share on other sites
Purple Puppy
I love new and glossy iPhone-like user interfaces! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147252-rumor-new-interface-in-snow-leopard/#findComment-1073154 Share on other sites
TheAppleFreak
I like the existing Aqua interface. I hope once Apple releases Snow Leopard, they include an option in Sys Prefs to enable users to switch between themes (and I don't mean just Aqua or "Marble", I mean user-designed themes too). Pinkfish
Just saying that the darker, the less it consumes power. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147252-rumor-new-interface-in-snow-leopard/#findComment-1095591 Share on other sites
Adrian Fogge
Ugh... what is it with the myth of "Dark UIs save power"? I mean seriously!!! Your backlight is at the same brightness when you are looking at something dark... Just for grins, I have gone in and pulled up system profiler... When I have a completely black image displayed full screen: Voltage (mV): 8632 When I have a completely white image displayed full screen: Voltage (mV): 8564 Can we put this idiotic {censored} to rest now? If you want to "save" power, drop your backlight level. Don't change your theme. ~Adrian Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147252-rumor-new-interface-in-snow-leopard/#findComment-1095717 Share on other sites
Embio
This is a tad off topic, but never mind. Adrian - are you free next Friday? I wonder if you can come in and talk to some of the idiots on my computing course. In one day I have faced a guy who is adamant that hard drives 'need to warm up before they go at full speed' and another one who, upon hearing that the BCS was started in 1958 asked 'but how can that be? Windows only came out in 1992!' I wish I was kidding. Synaesthesia
Well hard drives do take a second or two to spin up. Otherwise, ya. Some real BS there. Adrian Fogge
Well, it's starting to seem more like a new UI is in the cards after all. The new QuickTime has a very different look than what we have seen previously in a full application to become an interesting mixture of UI Metaphors from Quicklook and the iPhoneOS. Honestly, I am surprised that Apple did not have the standard Aqua resources through these external test releases. Apple has a long history of hiding UI changes and major new features until a final product announcement and release dates are made. ~Adrian Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147252-rumor-new-interface-in-snow-leopard/#findComment-1101374 Share on other sites
