I currently have an Intel 4, 3.0 GHZ CPU (Prescott), 478 socket, on a gigabyte 945 board. Everything from the motherboard is working fine and my system is very responsive. I've been thinking of getting a duo core cpu and found some with 478 sockets. Does anyone know if they will work on my motherboard? My other question the core duo don't go over 2.00 megaherts will they be faster than my current cpu? Thanks for the help! This is the link to where they have them:

Core Duo actually requires a 479 pin socket. There is an Asus adapter but it only works with specially designed Asus motherboards. Core Duo currently are more for laptops than desktops. The Pentium D (dual processor) socket 775 is the way to go for desktop systems (a lot cheaper and available now). Pentium D's are NOT called 'Core Duos'. Pent D also support EMT64 while Core Duo doesn't.

The CT-479 only works with the Pentium M. The Core Duo has 479 pins but uses a different pin layout than the Pentium M, making it physically incompatible with older Socket 479 motherboards. It needs a completely new kind of desktop boards, like the N4L-VM DH ( what a name! ).

See this new and extended review of the N4L-VM DH, that shows how an excelent player the Core Duo is: http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q2/core-duo/index.x?pg=1

What I want to know is if the Core Duo, due to the fact that it doesn't support EM64T is as compliant with our hacked OS X versions as is, for instance, the Pentium D 900 series?

Thanks guys. But if you follow the link I posted it says that the Yonah processor has a 478 pin socket. I'm really interested in upgrading my cpu to a duo core for the vx-t technology. I'm impressed with what my cpu does with Parallels and want to try out multiple cores (virtualization nirvana).
