Yeah, I would deifinitely pay for OS X. However I think that stabiility and any other operating system advantages that OS X provides is more the effect of having such stringent control over the range of hardware that OS X is expected to run on. If anything, I think the iApps would be a more logical port first, as there is fewer compatiibility issues and a greater value to end users. But that's just my opinion.

Yes I would, even with the hardware restrictions Apple is likely to impose.ud Realistically, their tight control over the hardware that works with their system is the reason the systems work so well. They don't have to be like MS supporting some sad old 14.4 baud modem :construction:

I agree with graphxks. This is why I don't think Apple will ever release OSX for PCs. Besides, the hardware is what completes the mac experiance! I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to use the iMac at our campus bookstore. And face it, no laptops can come even close to what Apple offers. I can't wait to see what the new iBook will be like!

Yes I would pay for it.

I don't know If Apple will do it. The down side is that Apple would have compatibility issues all over the place. One of the problems with windows is that there are SO MANY configurations to support. I don't think it can be done well. If Steve can't do it well he won't do it.

On the other hand ......

I've never seen a corperation turn down big money. There is more money in software than hardware. Build it once - sell it many times.

I think that they can easily sell their OSX. I am willing to pay for it. I am not concerned about hardware support from Apple, as once OSX for PC is available commercially, HW manufacturers will sell hardware that is OS X compatible and will develop the drivers for us. Just like when Solaris x86 became accessible to general population, hw manufacturers started developing drivers for their harware on Solaris as well. As an example, Sun traditionaly sold their hardware with LSI or Qlogic SCSI controllers. Once Solaris x86 was available for free, Adaptec put out drivers for Solaris x86. This has not hindered the sale of Sun hardware, and I would argue that it has improved hardware sales for them. They make great AMD servers on the low end at prices that are hard to beat. But I digress.

Please people vote!!!! We want Apple to listen. We want Apple OS X available for the PC. Apple always has been a great design company. Their hardware design ( Although some may argue that they are not the best / fastest etc etc ) is very aesthetically pleasing, and very user friendly. (Except for that single mouse button for years, God, what in the world were they thinking.)

All that being said, I think if Apple did release a PC version, Microsoft would drop support for their Office products on Mac, and would really have to reconsider rewriting their OS to be faster and cleaner.

Oh Steve...for once listen to what people want..and dont go off on a tangent as you have done in the past.

Of course I would pay. They could sell it as a bet, like Gmail. Claim it has to have bugs coz its beta, like Gmail. And supoort ppl like max-xuss

Apple should sell a motherboard, bundled with OSX, and a list (even if it is rather limited) of compatible and supported 3rd party hardware.

Very wise. I second that. As to the price I am willing to pay 50 Euro more than Windows XP Pro.
