aquanutz
I purchased this board not knowing if I was able to get it up and running but after much tinkering and help from Tempted, it's all working. Everything. Steps I used to get this board fully operational. Set up your BIOS Install Windows and flashed the board to 1.90 from ASRock's site: here This may cause a CMOS error on startup, just load default settings. Boot into windows again and flash with orignalmacnut's modified BIOS (1.80) from his site: here Use WinFlash that can be found here to flash the modified BIOS Again with the CMOS, just load default settings Reboot into your BIOS. Go into your IDE Configuration. Under SATAII Configuration set it to "Enhanced" and Configure SATAII as [AHCI] If you have more than 4 gigs of RAM, go into Chipset Configuration and make sure "Memory Remap Feature" is set to "Enabled", it's the first thing in the menu Install OS X Boot up with iDeneb 10.5.5 (what I used) and select any kernel you want to use and your video drivers (I used NVinject 512 for my 9800GT) After Installation You should be up and running with everything except sound. To install sound use the sound kexts in my download. If you have External Hard drive icons, OS X thinks that you really are using external drives, this is due to AHCI. Install the IOAHCI kext in my download. If you get any sort of CarbonLib error while trying to launch an application, apply the fix in my download. You can apply all the kexts using OSx86 Tool or do so manually. P43Twins1600.zip You should be all set now. amorrelle
Any update here. Has anyone patched the 2.0 bios yet? Will someone if not? I patched the bios with the 2.0 version. Update the to the Official 2.0 before you patch. I installed with iDeneb 10.5.6. Works fine - having issues (panics) with vmware and quicksilver though. My ati card blinks a warning message when it comes out of sleep too - annoying. The Plus: Boots in 10 seconds - fastest I have seen this machine do. Everything including sound works. The minus: kernal panics - not sure but this is probably something I did. Sleep issue with ati 1950 pro card. I couldn't get the Retail version to boot but if anyone has please let us know how. amorrelle
Works fine - having issues (panics) with vmware and quicksilver though. I turned off Memory remap and haven't had any kernal panics since. Make sure it is off. The os sees all 6gbs on my system - the bios doesn't but osx does. crazyJAT
I did the retail install method, because I bought a retail copy of leopard, and whenever I try to boot into os x, my pc just resets over and over again. Any help? Edit: I was able to successfully boot using the 9.40 modbin kernel. However I still want to run vanilla. What might be causing the problem. I am running vanilla kernel with the retail install guide outlined here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86167 Edit: Also, I downloaded the archive listed above and replaced my IOAHCIFamily.kext with the one provided and I still can't get my sata to work at all. Edit 2: Forgot to change SATA to AHCI from IDE mode. So, that works now. Second try at retail install method outlined here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86167 was successful and using the default settings of the v4.4 post_patch.sh file as well as the kexts from the archive above I had a completely working system with Network, Audio ( Internal Speakers, Headphones, Line Out, Digital Out, Internal Microphone, Line In, Digital In ), AHCI and full QE/CI Dual DVI with ATI HD2600xt. Had some instability with keyboard mouse, then I noticed the board had the jumper for ps2/usb voltage set to +5vsb, set to +5v and no problems since. Also, had to enable No execute memory protect in the bios to even boot os x. Also, ethernet seems to require me to disconnect and reconnect the cable every once in a while or it will get an internal private address or think it is disconnected. Also, in System Profiler my memory shows as 0 MHZ instead of 1066 MHZ. Anyone else having these issues, know fixes? crazyJAT
For some reason, some installers think my system is a Power PC system. Specifically, the Silverlight 2.0 installer wont install b/c it reports my system as Power PC. Can anyone else try this installer and see if it works for you? relder17
Thanks so much for this easy guide. Got my system up and running today, 10.5.6 with bios version 2.0 I used the Voodoo 9.5 kernel and I've been getting kernel panics. Right now I'm reinstalling OSX with the 9.2.2 kernel to see if that addresses my issues. What kernel did those of you that have it up and running smoothly use? edit: I discovered I was getting kernel panic every time I tried to download and mount the safari 4 installer. I'm going to not do that and see if I get it otherwise. edit2: Now i realize, after trying 3 of the 4 available kernels on iDeneb 10.5.6 that I get kernel panic every time I try to mount a .dmg file. Ugh... any suggestions? edit3: Hopefully final edit, I fixed the fail to mount .dmg problem by installing the seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5. I think I'm up and running for good now. crazyJAT
Still need some help here. I am unable to get shutdown or sleep to work and need a solution please. I used the retail install method mentioned in my post above. I am running 10.5.6 with vanilla kernel, IONetworkingFamily uuid fix, AppleSMBIOS_27, tried AppleSMBIOS_28 as well, no difference. When shutting down my system halts the cpu and drives, but the power light and system fans still run. When trying to sleep, the cpu and drives are halted, but the power light blinks repeatedly and the fans stay on. Also, I have a 2.5Ghz Core 2 Quad Q8300, but About this mac/System Profiler reports it as a "2.5Ghz Unknown" and some installers report my architecture as PowerPC. I assume the 2 are related. Is anyone able to get shutdown and/or sleep to work with vanilla kernel? You just have to (taken from: http://netkas.org/?p=123) install Disabler.kext (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=41446) install this dsmos.kext ( a bit updated to be present in mkext - http://rapidshare.de/files/48042786/dsmos.kext.zip.html) reboot create backup of Extensions folder. just in case: sudo cp -rf /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions_old Good Luck! aquanutz
Alright guys, I finally got around to updating this beast to Snow Leopard. I used the myHack installer found here: http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/ It is really simple but I hit one snag when I tried to restore my legal Snow Leopard disc to my USB drive. This is what I did: Made a new DMG of my SL disc. Put the DVD in and select it in Disc Utility, click "New Image" and just save it, I called it "SL". In order to restore it to the USB drive you have to then select the "SL" dmg you just made and click "Images" from the menu bar (up top menu bar, not on the application) and click "Scan Image for Restore", this takes a few minutes. Click your USB drive and Partition it to 1 partition and in the options select Master Boot Record. Select your USB drive and click "Restore" and then drag your SL dmg to the source and drag your USB as the destination. I opted to have it erase it. When this is all finished (took around 45 min for me) run the myHack installer from the URL above and make sure to install it on your USB drive! I just did the default install. Restart and boot off your USB drive. You'll get a menu and you can just hit enter twice to boot from the USB drive Install SL as normal Boot from your USB drive again after the install and hit enter when you see the progress bar on the myHack boot screen, select your Hard Drive that you installed SL onto Boot up, go through the normal install process and then go into your USB drive and run myHack installer that is on there. I just choose the normal install. When I went to reboot it didn't shut down, I had to hard reboot Remove your USB drive and boot from your Hard Drive. You should see the same myHack boot loader (Chameleon) if everything went smoothly You should have graphics (if you have a common ATI or Nvidia card) and ethernet Install the HDA kext from the zip file in my first post and that should get you audio (I have yet to do that, I am using migration assistant right now to get my data from my other Hard Drive) (did not work) Install the audio kexts from this link (first post): http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...188349&st=0 Three things to note: when I went to shutdown after the install, right after I installed myHack on the HD it would not shut down. I had to hold down my power button. after the migration assistant finished I tried to log back into my regular account and I just go the loading wheel. Had to hold power button again. after I installed the audio kexts and rebooted the system would not get past loading. I for a third time held the power button and restarted, it was fine after this. So after install and three reboots I am running just fine. That's pretty much it. If you follow those steps along with the steps on the myHack page you should be in Snow Leopard in about an hour. Good luck! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141517-guide-leopard-on-asrock-p43twins1600/#findComment-1421209 Share on other sites
