Hey,

I have a Mac Mini 1.33ghz G4. It has leopard on and works fine. I only really use it for

browsing and my music/videos, I do all my heavy duty stuff on my windows pc. Is it

worth my upgrading to a intel core 2 Mac mini or should I leave it?

The Core 2 Duo is much faster than the G4. But unless you are very unhappy with the G4, I say leave it, if you just use it for videos & music...It's up to you. Or try to Hackintosh your PC, or a Core 2 Duo PC. It's just as fast.

The Mac Mini Core 2 Duo can play back 1080p videos, if this is important, go for it. It is about 4-5x faster. It makes a big difference for more CPU-intensive tasks, but for playing music, 480P and 720P videos, and surfing the web, it's just fine! What else do you want to know?

The G4 processors were very powerful. I'm always amazed at how many Gigflops they turn in. For example my duel G4 1000 benched about 7-8 gigaflops. Amazing! My P4 3.0 gig does about 5-6. My C2D (e6600) does about 17 so it is a big jump.

If U want your computer for surfing and light duty stuff, stick with the G4 for another year or two. If U want to combine machines (which was a big motivator for me) or do power work on Mac (encoding video on Mac is so nice) I'd upgrade.

certainly do not buy the current mac mini because its a total ripoff!

there are much rumors that apple will anounce a new mini in januari/februari with new processors, larger hd's and probably 9400 graphic card (since they upgraded even the air to that one).
