@ the king, how does this mutegpio calculation work? btw I think u should put that table in the first post..

also, do u have any idea of why my digital out works only with ac power plugged in and with some precise values in smbiosenabler? when I unplug my laptop the red light coming out from the spdif jack turns off, and my internal speakers work worse...

edit: back from some tests :(

almost all those values killed my audio. except from the mic and line in ones, which I already had, changing internal speakers from 0 and headphones from their current value resulted in a lot of sound assertions and no audio after boot.

the only one that worked is the spdif out (pin 30), but it didn't really make any difference...

hy the king.. I see you're here now.

What do you suggest to do?

I always thinked that there are very few differences between a retail and a hack dvd setup. .

yes I no it's not the same.. but now I feel panic if I think at a hundred of topics to explain 100 different mothod to install a retail.

ok.. it must be done! then.. i'll do.

I give you the answer from others it users.. only to maintain this useful conversation.

I noticed that you did not include pin config for my external mic:-

01871c30 01871d98 01871ea1 01871f01

oops, sorry for missing that :) , try it this way 01871c30 01871d90 01871ea1 01871f01

This is what actually happen to me but it happen to my internal speaker & headphone.

You mean that you just switch the mutegpio value between them?

kizwan

yes, simple as that.. btw I'm now really over with this codec, everything works perfectly, so you can start by patching my kext with your pin configuration

I think is better for tmongkol to answer himself.

I asked him to join me in this patching effort(and for others if they want) and to rewrite this guide/start a new one with better n00b explanation etc.

Also I will create a new # to discuss this on irc(atm servers are borked) after is fixed, imo better to keep this/new guide clean and discuss live the problems...

About smbios, I dont use any smbios enabler, I fixed my stuff in DMI see my lappie guide for how to, also some stuff are injected by chameleon...

So dunno what can be your problem.

hy the king.. I see you're here now.

I allways suggest retail, :) that way you can be almost sure that is not smth else that borke your work...

IMO use Munky guide, best one so far...or take a choice...

well it looks like the spdif out mutegpio value under [vref80 column - pin 30] made my digital out 'last more', but after some minutes on battery it still turns off. It also seems that this thing affects the whole power detection, since with different values of mutegpio the battery meter doesn't detect things properly...

Hi The King!! Acer 5930g/ALC888S here, i tried your kext published few post ago but it don't work at all, but, i have the 888 partly working using the kext you did for your Asus laptop, what i have working is INT Speakers,Headphone out(not autoswitching) and sometimes (don't laugh pls, one time every 10 restarts about) the external mic in.

Int mic and line in are always not working, line in is not displayed in systemprofiler too.

What i've changed is the ConfigData, adding pin configuration taken from the Vista driver and i've removed the HDAEnabler inside of it because it was crashing my machine.

To have the proper layoutID injected i've used an EFI string only.

Attached is the modified kext (i suggest those of you with a 5930/6930 to try it), the alc888S datasheet pin layout and my system log of a restart with all the applehda related errors.

Could you try to look at it? many thanks

The codec dump is the same as Ugokind's machine (i think) and i can see some differences from the pin layout in the datasheet and the one from the codec dump (maybe i misread it :))

n.b. this kext is not work of mine, regards to The King

Is there an agreement on what to do with 71d Misc values that are >1 ?

I've come across a couple of codec dumps that have alternate values such as 6, 8, and c in that field.

I can guess what to do but I'm trying to help automate the verb conversion process with a script.

Just wanted to find out about these "high" values for Misc as they do cause assertion errors.

What are you trying to do is nice, but I'm not 100% sure it will work...

Catch me on irc, when is fixed(irc server) I will explain you more stuff to implement.

What you did is the same Marry with other hat...

HDAEnabler cant panic the SO unless you have a borked one or use on the same time more fixes for the same thing e.g efi strings alcinject and hdaenabler at the same time or in combinations...

No wonder your mic is not working since in plist is NID 25(mine) and yours is NID18, and what you added on configdata is wrong(not fixed) and my guess same sh*t is also in efistrings.

I will stop trying to help you guys until who want to test make a clean retail test install, not some iSh*t or whatever distro you use, and do what I say to do/use for test.

What I told you to do and what you did.... :(

Dunno wtf is so hard to do just what I said.

Just put my kext with hdaenabler(check first post @ the end) with original AppleHDA.kext in /s/l/e

DON'T TOUCH that damn original AppleHDA.kext!

I really don't understand why you guys take always the hard way instead easy way ;)

I`ve got my Internal Mic working. I found your guide miss a important part to make the Internal Mic working. It`s important to modify the applehdacontoller.kext correct or the Int Mic won`t work. Do you agree? But I got a little bit low recording volume. I think it can be done by modfying the applehdaplatform.kext since I modified from the original applehda.kext. :)

Whatever ur guide helped me in someway, thanks. I`m tring to use the DSDT patch way to get it working now, but I`m no sure will that enable the sleep founction. :(

Hi coconup,

EDIT: ALC883 on my Acer Aspire 3680 is now working. Need to remove MuteGPIO entry for both speaker & headphone. :( I have uploaded the revised Info.plist of AppleHDAPlatformDriver.kext.

post-125711-1238101149_thumb.jpg

Thank you for your help. I really appreciated it. All available devices (mic, external mic, line in, HP out & speaker) on my ALC883 (Acer Aspire 3680) are working except a couple of minor problem. Because I can't find correct combination of MuteGPIO for headphone & internal speaker yet. Also I have to choose only two from three input devices (mic, external mic, line in) because I only have two NID for input (8-35 & 9-34). :)

As you can see, I set mutegpio for headphone to 0 & speaker to 1,342,242,843. I will get mute on speaker & audio out on headphone. If I split them to individual pathmap, I will get audio out on speaker for a while before it mute. No problem with headphone though. If I switch the mutegpio between speaker & headphone, the effect will also switched. I think I will have to live with that for now until I figure out how to fix it.

kizwan, you can try some combinations of the mutegpios the king posted in the previous page, they didn't work for me and I also found strange that my hp mutegpio is the one that normally goes under the line out pin (27), but maybe they'll work for you

eg. try different combinations of these values

0 (normally internal speaker)

1,342,242,836 (normally internal speaker)

1,342,242,837 (normally hp)

1,342,242,843 (normally line out)

ps: are you using my kexts? cos it's strange that your internal mic is shown as external... I had this issue but I solved it yesterday, by switching those mutegpios as I posted. now I can use A0 90 for the internal mic, which didn't work before and I had to use A0 00

edit: I understood the mutegpio calculation... eg for pin 20 vref 80 -> 50010014 in hex, so 50 is the vref and 14 the pin (in hex).. but are you sure that 0100 in the middle is constant? what does it refer to?

Hi coconup,

I did it! :D Since THe KiNG mention that MuteGPIO value depend on VREF value, so I check back my codec dump. I found that no VREF entry for speaker & headphone. So, I just remove MuteGPIO entry for both devices. After that, both speaker & headphone working (auto-switch). I also compare it with AppleHDA.kext (ALC883) patched with Taruga patcher & it match. :P

Thank you very much THe KiNG & coconup. :)

No, I'm not using your kext. I just compare & try your MuteGPIO value. Referring to your dump, you don't have Line In but I have (refer to my dump & pin config - post #310). I have to choose only 2 devices for input (mic, external mic & line in) because I only have 2 NID for input (8-35 & 9-34). I chose external mic & line in, that is why you see external mic & line in.

If I choose internal mic, it will working after I corrected the MuteGPIO value (because VREF is 80) & it is the exact match with the value from MuteGPIOs table posted by THe KiNG. I also need to set Connection Type to 0 & Location to 0 (A0 90). I think only internal speaker can be set with Connection Type to 3 (ATAPI).

Aaahhhh....you figure out how to calculate the MuteGPIO value. :D I need to write this down. You're right, I think, (eg for pin 20 vref 80 -> 50010014 in hex) 50 is VREF in hex but I guess 014 is NID in hex & 010 is constant. What do you think?

Thanks! ;)

latest version for alc883/notebook: no sound assertions, autoswitch between internal mic and line in. Now every jack connection is shown as 'combo' like in real macbooks and I deleted the mutegpio entries for hp, internal speakers and spdif out. I also changed the verbs with some macbooks values (now the only difference is e1 instead of e0 in the spdif out's color and misc entry 'cos apparently my spdif out has 'no presence' capability).

ALC883.zip

the king, have you already tried to patch the SignalProcessing values? It would be cool to be able to modify them to adjust volumes and other stuff..

ps: what happened to the voodoohda project?

hy the king

i've tried to walt through 2 road

1st.. with a retail setup

2nd with normal dvd hack but with vanilla kernel

both way bring me and other italians into that situation

nobb1x created a kext (a legacy as yours but with separate parts (hda.. platform etc)

this is a good start.. because (except for brutal thousand errors in system log) audio out work fine and so do internal mic

and so I tried to verify from your platformdriver embedded in the mega plist.. with our.. but is the same.

then.. how can is possible that 2 weeks ago some people delivered a kext that can run external mike.. and not internal.. and if I try to merge both pathmap.. nothing.. now only internal mic?

it's amazing! really...

but good to have internal mic good.

the kext is here

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=47385

so.. tomorrow i'll erase that legacy.. and retry your 2 kext (therefore italians tell me that they are not so good.. but.. now that i've the environment to test.. i'll test)

bye.. night

I come across a issue. When I combined the MIC and the LineIn

in the Pathmap section into 1 item the Mic won`t work. Any idea?

Below is my Inputs Device Info.

I cannot get the Mic at Ext Rear and Mic at Int ATAPI display as MicIn and LineIn like in windows.

I only got 2 inputs. But in the dump I can see a CD at Int and LineIn at Int. Which one should I choose to be the MicAttributes?

thankz, i was looking for those threads :censored2:

we are finished here, u are the man ;)

EDIT: one last thing that i noticed right now, so i post in for info

frontpanel headphones do not work (work/but no sound)

when u plug in the earphones for example, automatically the sound from the speakers goes mute

and u see in preferences that output from "internal speaker" change to "headphones", that's good

but no sound coming out, not even noise or signal

i did a restart to test in windows, and they worked correctly, so something is wrong with applehda

i add this note, so somebody else try it and post back (ADI1988B last kext from king)

though the mic connection (frontpanel again) works correctly (tested earphones as a mic and i record the sound in logic)

so all the outputs/inputs work, apart from the headphones in the frontpanel

Something weird going on here

I got a front panel connection cable to test/fix headpones and autoswitch

But I dont get Headpones auto switch when inserted or on mic :(

Dunno wtf is wrong here mic on front works if i set it separate(not on switch)

But if I add headphones separate i got KP

Maybe is the cable fault dunno will test more oe try to got another one...

I got internal and external mic to work, but still no sound on internal speaker or headphones. What would cause this? I can change the volume on both, and I even get noise on headphones with the volume at full - it even auto switches to headphones when I plug them in, yet I'm still not getting audio. Would it be something to do with MuteGPIO? How would I figure out what values to input?

Your input is appreciated.

Hi King,

Thx for your Compilation of Infos!

I am very interested of getting my HDMI-Audio working. HDMI-Video works (9800 GTX+).

My Soundchip is an ALC1200 (P5Q-SE), Could i get Node 17 to Work?

borrowed from Signal64 Post:

ATAPI Unknown SPDIF Out at Int ATAPI 17 0x11 0x99430140 01171c40 01171d01 01171e43 01171f99

I'd tried to get it to work but it is recognized as Unknown Built-In Output with no Controls and no Audio over it.

From the CodecDump (under Alsa < v18a its recognized as ALC888 - Most Pins are the same, i think Codec too) wich i converted into a graph i saw that Node 16 (Stereo Digital) is Conected to 17. Also i saw that there is no AMP Node connected so i think thats the reason for no Volume control but do you maybe know a way to maybe unmute it so it will gives me sound.

It's an Onboard SP/DIF so i think it will work (have to put a cord between the Mobo an the GraphicCard).

Thanks for ALL the info (there's a lot!). I'm slowly getting my head around it with some help.

I'm trying to get a CMI9880 running and have just one quick question: what if your codec doesn't have an audio mixer?

You can see the layout in the attached codec graph (I can't attach a svg file so while I was zipping I also threw in the codec dump).

With just two nodes nothing shows up in Input or Output Devices.

Does your sound actually work in linux? If your codec graph looks like that, I'm assuming no.

It works with the Mandriva 2009 LiveCD that I used for the codec dump. I have a pair of speakers plugged in and get sound on Youtube etc and I can hear the shutdown sound when quitting Mandriva. It also shows up as an audio capture device so I assume input works too.
