First off, I want to say your efforts here have been incredible. My girlfriend has a AMD-based dv9000 that has caused us nothing but trouble. The wireless card on it is terrible. Like my Dell XPS, I was just going to swap out the card for an Atheros 5008 off Ebay when I noticed the "Does not work on HP laptops". Curious, I contacted the seller to find out HP whitelists their wireless cards.

I still don't know the reason why. Even if we really knew the reasons, I'm sure their completely baseless and retarded, as many other hardware restrictions have been in the past.

At any rate, I ordered the card I wanted to install in her laptop before I realized there are certain situations where this hack won't work. The laptop is not one of the newer ones (at least I don't think so), but I cannot find the actual older F.58A or F.29 BIOS you refer to. On HP's site, there is only an F.40 and an F.3D BIOS shown. Also, I'm not certain that your hack will work on AMD-based latops. I've read and re-read the threads, but I'm still unsure. I saw this thread and figured it would be best to post here.

Here is the information on the laptop.

External casing badging: dv9000

The bottom label:

HP Pavilion dv9500

S/N: CNF73918HH

P/N: GS718UA#ADA

dv9610us

The card I ordered is the 300M Atheros 5008 802.11n wireless card. Here is the link on Ebay

Any info you could provide would be great. Thanks!!

for reference one of the reason why some laptops get bricked eg the dv5000. after editing the bioscod1.mod the size is changed, because of the file size change. phoenix bios editor do not compress the bios correctly. phoenix creates a ROM text file that has the size and more information about the bios in the temp folder.

so you have to edit some more of the other wifi ids untill you get the same size as the original before edit.

I got my card today and tried it out (sans bios hack) just to see what would happen. As expected I got a fat "101 not supported" right in my face.

I've tried just about every search option and haven't been able to find jack regarding a BIOS hack for this laptop. I don't like posting asking for help unless I've exhausted all other options first.

In addition to the information below, here's some information on the PCI-E card itself:

Company: AzureWave

Model No: AR5BXB72

Thanks in advance.

@LRZRAGE

I tried sending you a PM, but it looks like it didn't go through. No error message... just nothing in my "Sent" folder. Maybe because it had a link to this thread in it?

Well, as you can see, many people are now trying to hack their bioses and after that they get a non-working laptop with a {censored}ed bios. I've got the same problem some months ago, and floppy recovery don't worked, so i sent my lappy back to hp warranty. What they've done? Replaced entire motherboard! Well, after this problem, i decided to hang up on bios hacks, but, now i'll get OS X working with a 4965agn card? Hummm, i've bought a HP retail broadcom bcm4311 wireless card, and as it is blocked under bios, i could not install it without getting the 104-wireless card unsuported. But as i mentioned in another post, i've saw that is possible to change the subvendor and the subpruduct ID's under linux, so what i've done? Changed them, but no working yet, but why? WTF???? WELL HUNNEYS, HP BLOCKED ALL WIRELESS CARDS ELSE THE ONDE THAT CAME INSTALLED WITH YOUR LAPPY! so how i'll got it working now? HAVE U EVER THOUGHT ON CHANGING IT'S SUB ID'S TO THE SAME OF YOUR WORKING WLAN CAR? NO???????? COME ON GUYS!!!!! I'VE DONE THAT AND WHAT HAPPENED????? I'VE GOT A WORKING BROADCOM WLAN CARD IN AN HP DV2660 LAPTOP!!!!! SO, DON'T BIOS HACK ANYMORE, CHANGE THE BROADCOM SUB ID'S AND ENJOY!!!

I have been able to get around the whitelist on my dv7-1175nr. I noticed that the 104 message only came up if I put my Broadcom 4311 based card in the slot that the Intel 5100 was in to start with. My solution was to leave the Intel card in its original slot, because the message came up if I left it in but moved it to a different slot, and extend my antenna cables to the Broadcom card that I placed in another mini pci express slot. I don't know if this helps anyone else, but I am posting this message from my HP laptop on Leopard 10.5.5 via wireless. This also makes it quite easy to switch between the cards if I'm in range of a wireless N network on Vista.

Hi - I've recently bricked/recovered my BIOS trying to install my new Broadcom 4321 card my wife bought me to replace my Intel 3945. I'd greatly appreciate your help on this:

1. I have the dv2799se (special edition) - which I'm pretty sure still considered under the dv2700 line for HP

2. most current BIOS is F.2D:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...product=3667426

3. Model of stock wireless card: Intel 3945ABG

Model of desired card: Broadcom 4321 (aka BCM94321) which is 802.11 AGN

4. Original Intel VEN ID/Info:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&SUBSYS_135B103C

Desired Broadcom info:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4328&SUBSYS_000A1028

By the way - for anyone trying to recover their phoenix BIOS in their HP Laptop I would highly recommend this link:

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums...threadId=974719

And follow the instructions by user "Justin Maslack" posted on Nov 4, 2008 01:44:51 GMT.

He has an attachment that includes the "WINCRIS.EXE" file that creates a proper boot image for a floppy.

OK, I've killed my DV6663cl while trying to apply a new BIOS. Now everything I got is a black screen... I've already tried to use the Crisis Recovery with a diskette boot but no success. After win+b the laptop reads the diskette, the fan starts to run strongly and keeps like that, no reboot, nothing!

I'm now searching someone to repair my laptop... can someone tell me what is the BIOS chip specifications and how it is attached to the motherboard?

Thanks for the tip! Glad this worked because min is a dv7 with the Insyde bios. Where did you get your u.fl extension cable from? Can't seem to find them.

PLEASE NOTICE THIS!

THE BEST WAY TO active the WIFI is to:

PUT the second wifi card on the second minipci port.

so no problem with BIOS or sub id!

Just add some wired antenna (buy on ebay) or connect the installed antenna with cable extension (or weld?)

work out of the box with a broacom!

I have been doing some research on HP DV Series BIOS that do not have the CRC code (F9EB01F8) right before or after the whitelist. Without that code, you can not stop the check of the accepted wifi cards. But what I would like to do is start an effort to custom tailor your BIOS of your system, with the Ven ID, Dev ID, Subsys ID of the card you would like to put into your system. I've found that it is very easy to brick laptops when trying to stop the whitelist all together. So with that said, if you have a HP DV Series BIOS that hasn't been patched (All of them except F.58A and F.29 :( ) then please post the following information:

1. Your exact DV Series number

2. Your most current BIOS revision

3. Your Model of your stock wireless card and the model of the new card you want to put in

4. Your VEN, DEVICE, SUBSYS ID, of your original and new wifi card

With that information, I can open up the BIOS and usually find the whitelist. At that point I should be able to add in the ven, dev, subsys ID of your new wifi card you want to use.

Note: I suggest that you be familiar with Phoenix Crisis Recovery disc. This is vital because you will be able to recover from a bad flash. Unfortunately HP likes to disable that option through their BIOS on some systems but it can be activated using Phoenix Bios Edit. Once you open up the .WPH file, the windows that automatically open up, there should be one named "BIOS Configuration Parameters". Next there is a drop down list and you need to choose "Multiboot III". On that screen you will see "Boot Fail Recovery". Go ahead and double click in the box under Value next to Boot Fail Recovery. Then go to File and choose Build Bios... should OK and then save.

I would like to get somebody that has done a Crisis Recovery and still needs their BIOS tailored to their wifi card they want to use that is unsupported. Since this is all testing, I can not guarantee it will be successful. I have been researching adding in vens, ids, subsys and its seems to be more realistic than trying to stop the whitelist all together. So if you want me to add in a wifi card for you, you are flashing at your own risk. I have patched 2 HP BIOS, and familiar with HEX editing and HP's BIOS. I would like to start adding in wifi cards to HP DV Series BIOS to start a compiled thread for easy download. I will try to help in any way I can to get your system up and going again in the case the flash is bad.

hi,LRZRAGE

could you do me a favor?

i have a HP compaq v3646, is that possible to make a patch for it? the BIOS version is F.2E (sorry that i wasn't able to upload it, if needed, you could get it at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/previou...roduct=3559133)

if not, could you give me some guide to hack the bios, or if convenient, hack the bios for me.

my New card is bcm 4311 with the device ID:PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&SUBSYS_046614E4&REV_01

my Old card is intel 3945 with the device ID:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4222&SUBSYS_135D103C&REV_02

Hi LRZRAGE,

could you help me to hack the F.21 A bios hp for the dv1447ea?

My old mini-pci wifi card is an Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_12F6103C&REV_05\4&AD1B67F&0&30F0

and I would like to subsitute it with a GIGABYTE GN-WIO6N-RH (with Ateros 5008 chip, recognized as native in mac osx). I used your F.58A hack bios for another notebook (dv6599el) and it worked very well, now I wanna do the same for my sister's notebook :) !!!

This is the original F.21A bios: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32001-32500/sp32187.exe

Thank you so much,

Dario

hi,

i've been following this thread for awhile and since you guys are more knowledgeable than me at this. i was wondering if anyone knew what the proper PLASH16 for a compaq c500 (c509nr) is?

i can get into bios recovery no problem (WIn+B while AC is plugged in then Power button) I've tried a few different PLASH16's on a recovery disk and some read for like 4 secs then stop and do nothing. Other versions will read constantly for as long as i have the plug connected. one actually read for about 2 minutes then stopped then did nothing while i waited for 40 minutes after which i unplugged the laptop and reconnected and still nothing.

i'm sure may not be doing something right but i just can't seem to find any info on this particular laptop for Phoenix Crisis Recovery.

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
