HP DV Series Whitelist BIOS hack

k1ng, you should able to flash the bios via booting to a usb or floppy.

I have patched F.59A... it is located in my first post.

If HP says your system uses the F.58A, then go ahead and use the patched F.58A and then you can use any wifi card you want.
  4. There isn't driver installation with a real mac. You are putting an Operating System that is designed ONLY to work with SPECIFIC hardware!! What don't you understand? If you bought a real mac, you wouldn't have to install drivers or anything for the hardware, it is just works when you first turn it on and even if you do a reinstall, all hardware just works... period. So I don't see why you need to post any more here on Insanely Mac. Why don't you send Apple your Name and Address, and give them a little run down of the problem you are having. I'm sure they will gladly send someone over to your house and help you out! You have posted the most ridiculous comments I have ever read. Thank you for making a fool out of yourself and giving all of us here at Insanely Mac a good laugh. Now, if a moderator wouldn't mind closing down this thread... it definitely doesn't have anything to do with LAN's or Wireless anymore. Have a good day mattm ... try not to use profanity when you are so frustrated with your "mac driver problems" ... it just makes you look like an idiot even more.

Custom whitelist for HP DV series BIOS

What did you change after you opened up the BIOS? Did you use a hex editor? With a bad flash you will need to research Phoenix Crisis Recovery disk and recover your system. I have tried editing the F.24 BIOS to add in a specific wifi card but it just bricked the users system and I haven't had a report back from him whether a Crisis Disk will recover the system. I added the ven dev and subsys in correctly but somewhere in the rebuild will cause I bad flash. With the F.24 the whitelist is in BIOSCOD1.ROM and for some reason editing COD1 can cause an easy brick. My guess is in the rebuilding and a checksum error of some sort, but not for sure. I can try editing again but I'm not for sure if a phoenix crisis recovery disk will work on systems with the F.24, if you are able to test that out for me whether you can perform a crisis recovery or not, that would be great. Thanks! Opened this BIOS and I can see parts of the ven dev of Intel card you have but cant find the subsys. Usually the subsys is right there with the rest of the dev and ven. I checked in usual spots like the CODs' after you open up the BIOS but was not able to locate the whitelist.

HP DV6000 F.29 BIOS whitelist patched

F.3D probably cannot be patched to allow any wifi card but what can be done is add in the ven dev subsys of the card you would like to use. I have been able to do that for an AMD user.

I have found the whitelist in BIOSCOD1.ROM of the F.3D. We can try to add in the specific card you want to use though. No guarantees but I have had 1 AMD user be able to use his atheros in his 6000 model after adding in the card ids for him. If you want I can give it a shot, but i will need the ven dev subsys of the card you want to use. I do advise knowing how to do a phoenix crisis recovery on your system in case of a bad flash.

No problem. The F.29 bios is just like mine (F.58A) in the whitelist aspect and I was able to patch it to allow any wifi card.

Your 1490 is more than likely is an accepted card with your bios. Here is the screen shot for the whitelist in the f.29. I bet the ven dev subsys of your wireless card is in there. So not everybody that buys a dell 1490 is going to have the same success and will more than likely get the 104 error.

Still having the same issue. I edit with HEX and the build and it is OK, but still it wont keep the changes after I save and double check.

awesome, thanks for the info... after reading your post, i looked again but didn't see biosexec but i did see romexec and found it in there. I do see your original wifi card in there and I can go ahead and add the intel. Please be aware that making any changes can brick your system. I advise that you know how to do a phoenix crisis recovery in the event of a bad flash. Please PM with a personal email, so I can send you the file. btw... your DV6580el uses the F.58A BIOS which I patched to allow any card. Saw in your sig it still says the intel 3945... are you running OS X on that laptop? edit: now it seems after I add the card in through hex and save, and then build the BIOS and it checks out ok. Then I reopen and then open up HEX again, and its back to the original hex that i changed... kinda weird but i will continue to work on it

I have taken another look at the BIOS and still having problems. I haven't been able to locate the whitelist in the normal bios locations (BIOSCOD1-BIOSCOD4) I'm open for suggestions if anybody else here has opened up your bios and taken a look...

Custom whitelist for HP DV series BIOS

The new HP DV series are using INSYDE BIOS which you cannot open up with Phoenix BIOS Edit. Sorry... I will open this BIOS up and take a look. Haven't had much luck with AMD yet. Please be advised BIOS editing can brick your system. Please research Phoenix Crisis Recovery and perform that on your system to ensure you can recover from a bad flash. Are you not using OS X with your system? Intel wifi cards are unsupported in OS X....
