Fragilem64
In this topic I will explain what I've done to try to make osx 10.5.4 working on my MSI P45 NEO. First my specs: Intel Q6700 MSI P45 NEO-F motherboard Ati 4870 4gigs ram 1 IDE hard drive(master) 1 DVD RAM drive(slave) 1 SATA drive I've first downloaded the kalway 10.5.2 iso but I had little success with that one. I could install it (on my IDE drive) but as soon as I wanted to boot from it I always got the 'using 16834 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO' fault. I've tried to solve it by using older kext's but then I was stuck on the 'Still waiting for root drive' error. So then I flashed my BIOS of my mobo to the latest version (1.5) and I downloaded the JAS 10.5.4 iso. After the bios update, I could see my SATA drive in the disk utility but I installed it on my IDE drive anyway. I could successfully install it and I can boot from it when I use the 'cpus=1' parameter at startup. The network card works out of the box but the onboard ACL888 audio chip isn't recognized. The ati card is not yet supported but I'm hoping for a driver when they start to put these cards in real macs. I've tried to use the HDPatcher 1.20 with all the ACL888 files I could find, but no luck. I also tried the azalia drivers but no dice. Then I tried to put in an old pci sound card, a CT4810(creative sound blaster) but this one is also no recognized. I do not see my onboard sound in the system profiler, is this normal? So if anyone has suggestions so I can fix it or questions about the installation, well this is the place Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/122592-msi-p45-neo/ Share on other sites
otonk85
Hi, I have almost the same hardware as you do except the VGA. I tried to update the mobo to 1.5 but it still cant detect my SATA HDD, did you patch the ROM? if so can you please post it here? Have you got multi core working? Please describe how you setup your system in detail cause I'm still a noob.. leonthelion
Hi, I have the MSI P45 Neo (not the Neo-F). I too was stuck on the "still waiting for root device" problem. I spent a long time trying to update my BIOS to version 1.5 which I achieved after downloading the USB drive patching utility on the MSI forum site (English download link wasn't good, so signed up to .de German site and downloaded the installer from there). BIOS update didn't make any difference to me with any osx86 ISOs or trying on Sata or IDE HDDs from my Sata DVD drive. I assumed BIOS settings and this morning fiddled around til I got to the stage I could see the installer and both my Sata and IDE disks in Disk Utility and start the installer process. (photo below) I will give a run-down of the BIOS settings I used to get this working (at first, the IDE controller was disabled, after one succesful boot, I went back and changed those settings, so keep that in mind for those sections of my BIOS below): [ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES] IOAPIC FUNCTION = ENABLED [ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES] > [CPU FEATURES] EXECUTE BIT SUPPORT = DISABLED SET LIMIT CPUID MAXVAL TO 3 = DISABLED [ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES] HPET = ENABLED [ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES] > [BOOT SEQUENCE] 1ST = CD/DVD: P1-HL-D 2ND = HDD: PO-WDC WD5 BOOT FROM OTHER = YES [INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS] USB CONTROLLER = ENABLED USB LEGACY SUPPORT = ENABLED ONBOARD LAN = DISABLED EXTRA IDE CONTROLLER = DISABLED HD AUDIO CONTROLLER = DISABLED [INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS] > [ON CHIP ATA DEVICES] PCI IDE BUSMASTER = DISABLED ON CHIP SATA CONTROLLER = ENABLED RAID MODE = AHCI [INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS] > [ON CHIP ATA DEVICES] > [AHCI CONFIG] AHCI PORT 1 = NOT DETECTED AHCI PORT 2 = NOT DETECTED AHCI PORT 3 = NOT DETECTED AHCI PORT 4 = NOT DETECTED AHCI PORT 5 = ATAPI CD-ROM AHCI PORT 6 = HARD DISK *The above AHCI port settings are based on how many Sata ports I have. At first, you need to change the RAID mode from IDE to Sata, set each PORT to: AHCI PORT : AUTO S.M.A.R.T. : DISABLED Then reboot and enter BIOS setup again. This time, the ports should show any devices connected to them. Now, go back to the [ADVANCED BIOS FEATURES] > [bOOT SEQUENCE] section and correct your boot sequence once more. Save settings, reboot and the Darwin loader should start. Hit F8 and type: cpus=1 -v (mine would reboot automatically if I didnt set the cpus flag). This should get you to the installer. This is as far as I got this morning, my install froze at 57minutes, mouse wouldnt respond, DVD and hard drive activity ceased. Once I get some more "real" work done to appease the bosses, will try again with some different installer options or even another osx86 ISO. For more info, I used Leo4Allv3 here, and selected the following options in the Customization options: Kernel 9.2.0 Graphics > 10.5.2 nVidia Remove FireWire Hope this helps others with the MSI 45 Neo at least get to this stage and hopefully further. Please share your progress and let's get these powerful computers running the best user OS out there! leonthelion
Success! Hi all, To follow up on yesterday's tinkering, I tried JaS 10.5.4 and it installed fine on the P45 Neo using the BIOS settings in my previous post. Graphics detected perfectly using the nVidia drivers there. I also selected 2 Intel ICHx related drivers/plugins but I'm not sure if they were needed or not. I didn't bother adding any sound drivers as I hadnt checked what card I'm running yet. Will redo the install later and post details here for any others wanting to do the same. BTW, it's definitely worth doing. Leopard runs super fast on this hardware and once you know what installer/settings to use, it's not much harder than any other OS install. Don't give up! leonthelion
Hola bem, I didn't have time to play with the sound anymore, so I bought a USB sound adapter. Here, in Japan, it is about 1,900 yen (less than US$20). Plug it in and immediately have a sound output device (no input on this model adapter, but more expensive ones allow many options). I've been using this Hackintosh for work for almost a month now and no troubles. Still only 1 CPU core enabled, but it's super fast anyway! I don't know enough of how to take just the update to 10.5.4.... I would also like to apply the 10.5.5 to this, but I do not want to break this nicely working system until I have free time (and spare disk) to test... Hola sebarafaela, I tried many different osx86 images and the JaS was the only one which worked for me, and very easily! Good luck! mrajpal
try a USB keyboard. PS/2 is standard for PCs, but has never been included on an Apple machine. Thanks for that quick reply and yes I tried with a USB keyboard and it works great. However, there is no Audio, and I also need to find driver for my Netgear wg111v3 usb wireless. Any idea what might be causing that "error at startup, pausing for 5 seconds" when I start my PC? and though I'd love to see it fully utilize my E8400 core 2 duo, is there a way to save the kernel boot options (cpus=1) somewhere so that I don't have to type it everytime I boot. dnine
hallo, i can share some experience with installing osx on P45-NEO3-F with core q8200, newest bios .1A. previously i tried to install iatkos v7 - crashed 5s after trying to boot from installation cd; then ideneb 1.5.1 - installation succefully passed, but ive got some kernel panics then... recently i tried with snow leopard i used retail disk > usb flash disk > boot-132 based cd method had trouble with bios settings - basically, most important are: - in CPU Feature - Set Limit CPUID MaxVal to 3 - must be set to Disabled - in RAID Mode - must be set to AHCI - IOAPIC Function Enabled - ACPI Function Enabled, state S3 ive tried to use installation prepared on another computer as well as direct installation, all cores enabled, only problem after succefull boot is with graphic - i have ati 4850 - screeshot attached. it looks like graphic driver related problem, because system looks not_to_be_freezed, i belive, i can solve it soon. EDIT: "solved" with -x boot flag Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/122592-msi-p45-neo/#findComment-1311082 Share on other sites

FKA
Use VoodooHDA.kext for audio. Zac. eeecK! No need for voodooHDA .... Sledge hammer nut springs to mind .. Please see the MSI thread here. See post No.33 onwards. I have various DSDT fixes for my Neo3 FR p45. It's the same alc888 audio chip set. I use DSDT patch and tmongkol's legacyHDA.kext for alc888 that can be found on the first post of his fantastic ALC thread here I only have FakeSMC (2.5) and legacyHDA kext in Extra/Extensions Using Chameleon Pre-release RC5 from post 918 here which with DSDT patches I've listed in MSI Thread allow for shutdown and restart without need for extra kext.
