bootloader
Hi I have taken the plunge to install 10.4.5 (Mac OS X 10.4.4/5 osx86 Patched Bootable DVD Myzar). Now the problem is I don't know how to switch back to windows or have a dual boot system. I have search the forums here, it seems i need to have installed the bootloader or Acronis loader in Windows before I can do anything. Hmm plunge too fast. I installed OS X on a different partition ( I have Windows on the first partition.) Is there anyway in OS X that I can do to help me go to Windows? or install a bootloader?? When I boot up, I need the DVD to be there first as well. F8 does give me any options except the OS X. btw: I can't go into Start up Disk in OS X to change the primary disk, it will quit. Any ideas? XanthraX
Turn The Computer On, press "F8" immediatley after the Bios or Motherboard Brand Picture dissapears, but before Darwinx86 begin to start. You will see the options, what do you want to boot. Or Follow this guide http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...he_boot_options to edit the OSX86 boot options. NS91
Use SPFDisk to set the Windows Partition as active. I suggest using Ultimate Boot CD, as it has many tools that you might need down the road. I dont know if I'm doing anything wrong, but it still goes to the Darwin/X86 boot and the option is just "hd(111,1) Mac OS X Install Disc x86" which is the DVD i guess? caz I still need it to start up the Hard disk some how. poispois
Grab a Windows 98 install disk and go into safe mode. From there just type fdisk /mbr. You'll have Windows back online. ungibbed
While in OS X, have you tried opening system preferences and checking the "Startup Disk" icon? Most likely your windows drive will be listed there as "Windows unknown" on whatever you named your windows drive. Give that a shot first as it might be the easiest way to get back into windows to set up a multiboot solution. Good luck to ya Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12180-boot-up-in-windows-after-installing-os-x/#findComment-82044 Share on other sites
Intel Coretelo
Bootloader, this might come in handy : Use your XP to activate your osx86 boot : 1. Turn off your peecee and dismantle the data cable from your dvd drive 2. Reboot or turn on your PC, press F8 and select your WinXPHome HD 3. Let XP running, then select START, select RUN, type CMD and you go to the DOS BOX 4. In the DOS BOX type DISKPART, then type LIST DISK to see if you have 2 disks (usually disk 0 and disk 1) 5. Go to your macosx Disk, by typing SELECT DISK 1, then type LIST PARTITION and it shall reveal partition(s) you have in DISK 1 (it shouldbe PARTITION 1) 6. Next type select PARTITION 1 and then active this partition to make it bootable by typing ACTIVE and wait a while and a message pops up : THIS PARTITION NOW HAS MADE ACTIVE 7. Type EXIT and EXIT to leave diskpart and dos box and get back your WinxpHome GUI. 8. Shutdown your XPHome normally, re attach your dvd drive, turns on pc, press F8, select your macosx HD it boots into mac osx86. 9. Once macosx is running go to folder library/preferences/system configuration and copy the file COM.APPLE.BOOT.PLIST, edit the file with text editor and add the following lines after <string>BOOT GRAPHICS</string> <key>YES</key> <string>QUIET BOOT</string> <key>NO</key> <string>TIMEOUT</string> <key>8</key> save the file and get back to ./system configuration folder, delete the orginal file, back on to the desktop and copy the edited file to ./system configuration folder. Please supply your password corrrectly as you do all of the above activities. 10. Restart mac osx86, it boots to mac osx86 bootloader (command line version) and you'll be prompted to press any key in about 8 seconds, and there you are THE DUAL BOOT OPTION : XP or MACOSX86 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12180-boot-up-in-windows-after-installing-os-x/#findComment-82211 Share on other sites
