You are braver than me if you'd use OSX86 for a server!

That's not bravery, it is stupidity :)

why? it works. the one and only problem is the missing IDE-controller. the gigabit ethernet works!

the graphic-card don't works correctly. but this is not a problem, because i use it as server.

i hate windows. and i don't know anything about linux/unix. i work only with macs. and it is not possible to use 10 or more HD's in one mac...

hmm, f***ing {censored}

now, will there be any controller-card in future? what are you think?

i think it must be possible to find one that work, because the on-board-controller works too. an external controller is doing nothing other than the on-board-controllers.

what about the compatibily-list at http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCLPart#IDE

maybe this one (it's the last one in the list): Promise 378 S-ATA in IDE-Mode (but only the S-ATA part of the Controller works[, like with some Linux Kernels])

but this is an S-ATA-card. and if possible, i want one with ATA.

are the other cards on this list all on-board?

This suggestion is not what you have in mind, but note that most USB and Firewire HDs works. You may take a hit with the USB in CPU usage, but IDE to USB adapters are cheap, the Firewire adapters are slightly more but not expensive either.

Did u try an ACARD 68xxM? i see there are extensions with the 10.4.4 Install.

hmm, i see the acard extensions too. there are 5 acard-extensions into the folder HD/system/library/extensions. but in the info window is it marked as "PowerPC", not as "Universal".

i think they will don't rock...?

does someone have an acard-controller and can test it?

i tried to order the controller Promise 378 S-ATA, which is listened on http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCLPart#IDE

but i can't find an online-store who can supply this card. i asked in two big computer-stores, but they know nothing about this model. they can't order this card.

on the promise-website it's the same. it's not listened.

does someone found this card in a store?

what is about the .kext-files into the folder HD/system/library/extensions? they are some acard-extensions, but they are marked as "PowerPC", not as "Intel" or "Universal". i think they will don't work?

how difficult is it to port a PowerPC-extension to universal? is this possible? or can just apple do this?

  • 2 weeks later...

does someone have a controller who works in 10.4.6? maybe are there some new drivers?

i have installed 10.4.6 now, but my controller is still not working.

the acard and adaptec-extensions in the folder system/library/extensions are always still marked as "PowerPC".
